But it only has 1 optical out and no in...... mhhh...
It has a digital input and output in Coax format. There are optical<->coax converters for sale, cost less than $20,-

Also, with converters like ones on that card there is not much quality lost when using the analog inputs instead of digital.
Thanks for that helpful information....

Do you think the ESI does work at Ultra low latencies with lets say 2ms or 4ms under heavy VST load (70-80%)?
With cheap cards you get drop outs and clicks and have to raise to 20ms ( like my SB Live , this peace of shit-gamer-card :x )

The ESI cards support buffer sizes of 48 - 64 - 128 - 256 - 512 - 1024 and 2048 (maybe even 4096) bytes. It depends on your CPU and project load what the lowest workable latency is. I own an AudioTrack Maya1010 (same PCI card but 5.25" breakout box instead of 19") and it works very fine on my nearly 3-years old AMD 2400+ PC with a latency of 512 (about 5ms) and sometimes I switch to 128 bytes (about 1ms)

That sounds good to me.
I got an Athlon A64 3500+

You would say the Maya/ESI are well designed cards....
Did you experience any problems with them? Errors, Bluescreens, etc.
Then I would go and buy an ESI the next days...

I have emu 1820M so no connection problems here :hihi: I am about to order one unit :)

The facts that this falls pricewise between freeware and plugin verbs, sounds better than my trusty old Ambience (based on the demos) and eats 0 CPU cycles make this unit very tempting indeed.

Thanks for the hint, hifiboom.

okay now a had a little time to play around with the new unit.

I have taken the "Vintage 250" Preset, which utilizises the Gold Plate Algorithmus...

This algo uses 4 Delay engines as EarlyReflection_Pattern.....

I tuned it to sound really big...

I raised the Late reflection pre delay up to 170ms and decay time to 6 seconds which is really huge sized....
and the ER/LR Ratio to 90% which generates the feeling of being more away from sound source....
Diffusion for the late reflections is set at 5 which is very low (up to 30)....Thats why the bass kick sounds a little bit fluttering at first....
http://home.arcor.de/soundspace1/reverb ... 20test.wma

sometimes I switch the unit to bypass...
And the drums are just standard GM sounds that don't sound very good, and the vst synth is just a cheap one...
But even these cheap sounding dry sounds get the air to sound realistic.

Its about 50 wet level in the mix....
Thats not normal condition. But listen exactly to the instruments... although there is so much reverb with also a very long decay time nothing sounds muddy or smearing.... the sounds come clean surrounded by the cloud of the reverb....

And at least you cannot hear the reverb as effect....

I have to say that is quite impressive! Looks like I didn't tweak the thing long enough last time I tried it.

Cheers!

Yes indeed,

When comparing reverbs its also important to compare how the units sit in the mix. With more than just one sound.

And I would say the sound of the V-Verb is more the subtle one, which you won't hear straight into your face.....
You just feel it....which is nice....

You may discuss if the V-Verb does not perfectly emulate the
Lexicon 90,250,960,480 or TC 4000,3000 or whatever
But at least it has a nice character reverb, that sounds very classic to me ( 80s reverb units )
And it is very dense, very clean, just nice....
You can put nearly every preset on any kind of sound ( drums, instruments, bass, ...) which make it ultra versatile.

You still will be able to buy a 960L additional...

this may be due to they are 48khz instead of 44,1
No, it's the fact you use wma files, a windows media player file format, and he can't figure out how to play them on macs.

yeah, mp3 is more universal...

I also consider buying another one or two.... its just too good.

I swear by GOD you won't regret it.

It beats every plug-in(convolution and algo based) and most hardware... i swear....
The more I am testing the better it gets !

but sometimes sounds like shit.

WMA is way better than mp3, so for comparing reverb, I won't go and use mp3..

WAV would be best... but my homepage space is to small....

How did you figure?

Topic: for me it's still beyond belief that anything with behringer on it could sound all right. But looks like I'm gonna have to check.
