Kingston, all those drums sound like absolute shit. Take my advice; try again.

If this is what "rock" music aspires to sound like, it's no wonder I never listen to the shit.

Shit how? The clips are meant to illustrate saturation, not necessarily be there for your listening pleasure.

"oi, I don't know 'bout no saturation, but you were off a beat heheheh"

Indeed. I noticed the same thing with tapebus, it's rather static, both on listening, and on meterbridge.

Uhh. Yeah. I've got a better idea. How about you show us what doesn't sound like shit? Those examples are my preference of great modern rock/soul drum sound, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Do a multitrack drum mix of your preference, and we'll re-evaluate your position on the matter.

Despite the off-beat drummer, I was talking about the tone and dynamics (compression). They sound like they were recorded in 8-bit. And they lack fidelity.

Actually I think you should show us how "Good" your drums are inside the mix, where it really counts.

to put the money where the mouth is, here are some classics I really like (for comparison), with approximate volume matching, a few of them snagged from remasters.

8-bits? lacking fidelity? I've got absolute nothing to be ashamed of. Now go bother someone else. :smack:

As for the rest of you, I'm still open for educated opinions, and entirely different takes on the subject.

Thought I'd process your loop once more so here it is.

Nicely inbetween the two original examples, although a few dB louder. (I always try to RMS-match in examples like this).

It's actually a very decent quality saturator. Camel phat? Mix sat? Magneto? something rather tricksy? :hyper: :?:

Post

I didn't RMS match it as I wanted to just play with the loop ..not taking it away from your good self though of course. I used my chain of fx's like I was saying earlier sat/comp/eq/tape....the saturation or rather distortion part is actually Quadrafuzz this time in SX3..followed by Voxengo's Cruncher then UAD EX1 EQ and finally the Voxengo Tapebuss plug....all routed (And this is the key to much better sound generally) My multi mono Sum buss in SX3 with PSP mixsaturators on either side for a wider more natural console sound.....It's all about moderation though as I have over processed it all for this demonstration than I normally would have or rather on this loop anyway. :)

Cheers.
