I have been testing this plug and it is by far the best VST I have heard in months. $150 is completely reasonable. As always, though, it makes me wonder what else is out there.

Can I tap other people's experience in this forum? What's the best alternative's to Vintagewarmer? Free is always a good thing, but I am also interested in the velvet-slipper plugs that the pretty boys up on Raspberry Hill use.

a kind of recent thread on the topic,

My personal favourites (that are currently publicly available) would be Voxengo TapeBus (cheap) and TLS-SaturatedDriver (free) and Voxengo Warmifier (cheap again).

As for vintage warmer itself, I think it's pretty outdated, digital sounding and overpriced, but hey, if you like the sound, go for it. Many people seem to like it.

Steinberg Magneto, if you gots Cubase/Nuendo.

And Quadrafuzz if you have SX3/Nuendo of course...great for mashing it all up if you are into that sort of thing.....But PSP mixsaturator is most excellent :) used sparingly.

Cheers.

Nomad Factory makes some nice tube and analog emulation plug-ins.
Very comparable..

Very comparable to Vintage Warmer?!! I don't recall anything that comes close to the VW sound... :?

A lot of these suggestions are stomps. I have been using vintage warmer to boost and fatten the signal rather than distort it.

So I will refine my question: What plugins are best for boosting and fattening existing tracks without too much of a learning curve ( One thing I like about VW is that you can usually just find a preset that sounds great on whatever you are doing).

M-A-G-N-E-T-O... It even has presets! There is a plugin version floating around as well. Not sure where to get it, but we just had a thread about it recently.

Oh Jeez! How about Tritone's Colortone Free, Colortone Pro, Valvetone or Hydratone? You might want to check those out. Hydratone with "Fire" settings should get you close to VW - BUT - it costs about the same and you have to use the lame-o Pluggo Runtime.

For free...Dominion? Colortone Pro? Personally, I still think VW is the best, followed by Magneto. There's not much else I'd trust with a mixdown. I hear Logic's native plug is awesome, but, well, you know.

Nomad Factory is more pricey, but has a few nice plugins as well. And AFAIK more or less comparable to VW (I have both). Although VW is a compressor with an analog touch, while Nomad also has an EQ with an analog touch in the blue tubes bundle (I don't know much about their other products). It's just unfortunate that you have to buy the whole set....

Elephant - no warming just a great limiter and can also max a signal

For limiting + subtle warming Kjaerhus GPP does a very good job. I tend to use it on jobs where VW is just a little bit to much.
Qw, music from twelve weeks in quarantine is now streaming on spotify and bandcamp. This is a collaboration with the the smallest of worlds VR art project, that documents our living spaces in times of isolation. You can join their project here.

Somewhat paradoxal I'd say...how do you think "boosting and fattening" is usually accomplished? Distortion, baby (and maybe compression).
