It's "The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan" for me. Back when his self-absorption was still tempered with self-mockery.

I refuse to listen to Dylan until he drops the phony Oklahoma accent. When he reverts to his original Northern Minnesota accent . . . MAYBE I'll give him a try, don't cha know? I guess I won't make him change his name back to Robert Zimmerman. Which I think is pretty kind of me, I must say.

You didn't know Dylan changed his name and his accent? He wanted to sound more like Woody Guthrie, so he put on an Okkie accent.

I was just kidding about refusing to listen to him for that reason, though. I just don't care for his voice or music in general.

Bob Dylan (born Robert Allen Zimmerman on May 24, 1941) is an American singer-songwriter, musician, author and poet whose enduring contributions to American song are often compared, in fame and influence, to those of Stephen Foster, Irving Berlin, Woody Guthrie, and Hank Williams.

Dylan is most widely recognized for headlining a thrilling zeitgeist of the 1960s, when some of his songs, such as "Blowin' in the Wind" and "The Times They Are A-Changin'"[1], became anthems of the anti-war and civil rights movements. He remains an influential and popular artist; his most recent album of new songs, 2001's "Love and Theft", reached #5 on the charts in the US and #3 in Britain. His upcoming studio album, Modern Times, is due for release on August 29th.

Dylan's early lyrics incorporated politics, social commentary, philosophy and literary influences, defying existing pop music conventions and appealing widely to the counterculture of the time. While expanding and personalizing musical styles, Dylan has shown steadfast devotion to traditions of American song, from folk and country/blues to rock 'n' roll and rockabilly, to Gaelic balladry, even jazz, swing and Broadway.

Dylan performs with the guitar, keyboard and harmonica. Backed by a changing lineup of musicians, he has toured steadily since the late 1980s. He has also recently performed alongside other iconic or near-iconic artists, such as Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell, Tom Petty, Roger McGuinn, and Eric Clapton. Although his contributions as performer and recording artist have been central to his career, his songwriting is generally held as his highest accomplishment.

I just found out what I'm doing this month (and apart from the he-really-shouldn't-be-singing thing I share with him, it's got nothing to do with Bob Dylan). Wish me luck. I need to transcend my skill level and also I need some luck in finding the right sounds. I'm starting the search on board my new Korg, but who knows where I'll end up...
