What do you think is the best Rhodes Sample/Vsti ?
I used Logic Audio evp88 long time, but finally changed from logic 5.5 to cubase and now i need proper rhodes patch.

Scarbee. And Lounge Lizard is nice too.

You should definitely check out the group buy at www.sampletekk.com , some nice electric pianos in there at great prices. There's also a good Rhodes at www.precisionsound.net called Dusty Electric.

learjeff's rhodes piano is much better than Lounge Lizard IMO.

Another vote for Sampletekk.. $24 for the Tubed Rhodes Jr set (with 50% off) is a no-brainer. And there's an upgrade path to the full-blown Tubed Keys set, which I ordered last week btw.

If you're absolutely set on a physical modeled version, then try out MrRay.

Start with learjeff's. You'll be surprised at it's quality.

And then try MrRay73. It's a synth and very good. (I believe it tries to emulate learjeff's sampled Rhodes.)

thanks to everybody for suggestions.. seems like sampletekk or learjeff's is the one.

I just picked up a real 1978 Rhodes Stage 73 within the past month. Before that, I was using the learjeff's Rhodes samples as one of my favorite Rhodes emulations. Now that I can compare the two head to head, I can say the learjeff sample set is VERY good for a free download.

NI's Elektrik Piano sounds very good here!

i'm a pretty crazy manic lover of the rhodes sound

and i find the rhodes - just something about the sound and response of playing it - to be on par with an acoustic guitar for songwriting/coming up with ideas. you know how you can just strum and mess around on an acoustic guitar, and soungs and ideas just 'fall out' all over the place? well playing a rhodes is like that for me.

which is amazing because i am NOT a keys player. i suck on keys. i can't get this 'songwriting/ideas' effect from any other keys instrument or sound. nothing. piano, wurlitzer, etc etc. none of 'em have that effect.

but the rhodes and the acoustic guitar sure do. just so fun to jam aimlessly on for hours

so yeah i'm a mighty big fan of the rhodes

i've never owned a real one, mind you, although it is a major major object of lust for me. i've played quite a few real ones though. first fell in love with the sound and feel on a real one.

anyway i've tried lots of rhodes software and samples. everything suggested so far is awesome, they are all great choices. LL is really nice. LJ is really nice too! Mr. Ray is really damn good too! I wish wish PJ Geerlings would make one.

Anyway, the one that stands out the most *for me*, the one I always turn to, is the Scarbee. I have the KGB/VKC version of it. I don't know if it expanded from the RSP.73 edition or not.

Anyway, man it just rocks. feels and sounds so good. i use the sustain pedal a lot when i play Rhodes and i just can't stop playing the Scarbee. It does bug the shit out of me about the loading time.....but it is a price i am willing to pay for SURE to use these great samples

anyway, my 2-cents worth. Scarbee has sales quite often, so if you end up wanting it you only have to wait at most a couple months to get a good deal. no problem for a sample set you will be using for years, possibly even you lifetime 8)

it's gooood

i have tried both learjeff's and MrRay73 and i'm pretty satisfied with them :)
