Frantic never gets mentionned a lot around here, yet it always seemed to me that it's the best sounding vst filter bare none...
The demo is a joke though :

Demo Limitations:
The Demo Versions are restricted to 3 minutes of use and you will not be able to save patches or render a Frantic track. Preset Browsing via +/- is disabled. You need to manually pick a preset.

So i'm calling out Frantic users, to get some impressions about how it sounds compared to other (commercial) vsts, and even analog stuff if you have any experience in that domain (i'm not expecting miracles here, but those 3 minutes felt like this was the only filter that could compare soundwise to analog gear).

Hmmm...not heard of their Frantic filter. Although I tried out one of their older offerings ages ago, and it was very capable. Not what I'd call analogue-sounding at all, but nevertheless good for some types of filtering.

Unfortunately, a 3-minute demo has turned me off it immediately. I can't see how I could possibly assess anything in 3 minutes. It'd take me maybe 2 minutes to set anything up, at the bare minimum, leaving a minute to check the sound out. In fact, for specific demoing and checking how a filter reacted at certain frequencies, whether it had zipper noises - sweeping the cutoff at high resonances etc to really hear the quality...I simply couldn't do it in 3 minutes. Pointless to even try.

What a stupid idea!

I think they'll be severely limiting their sales if they continue with that particular demo policy.

Basement Arts are one of those companies that I actually keep half an eye on, because they always favourably impressed me, even if I didn't end up needing to purchase their products. Guess that might change...

I own frantic filter and it does sound better then most filters i've tried and own.For awhile the developer was selling them cheap on ebay, i bought mines for about $20, best $20 i've ever spent.As for the demo, when it time-out just remove it and launch another one on the same project.

I just got Frantic about a month ago, and I've gotta say, thought I do have a small amount of very slight aesthetic gripes with it, it just sounds beautiful! The filters are truly unique to it....especially the OBXpander recreations. Very flexible vst, well worth the money. I have all of the Basement Arts products actually, even the first plugin they put out (not available anymore though) the MF-1 filter...another excellent piece of kit IMO. Great sound design and surgical tools. The Reflex vsti is my favorite beatslicer of all the ones on the market. Great loop library with that too.

Lastly, in my praise, Basement Arts support is TOP NOTCH. They've stayed up till 4 in the morning helping me via email (and that's in their time zone, not mine.)

Based on Antti's (of Smartelectronix fame) filters IIRC. In other words, yes, probably very good.

I thought Fabfilter Volcano sounded a bit better, but Frantic can't be beat when it comes to modulation options.

FRantic filters rocks ! i am a proud owner now exactly what i wanted they sound quiet more analogic compared to volcano
