I'm actually considering GAC at this point, the main draw to the voxengo EQ was the fact that I could move EQ points directly on the grid, is this true of the Kjaerhus EQs?
Does GAC use quite a bit of CPU? (even if I only have one effect switched on?)
or is GAC more suitable for mastering than mixing?

Yes you can drag EQ nodes around the graph. I find the CPU use to be very reasonable.. why not try the demo? You get about 30 days with no restrictions iirc
I use it for mixing and mastering.. in the master chain it provides convenient ways of setting up parallel compression, or mid/side processing, or filtering for just the sidechain.
