I actually sold logic silver as soon as I heard it had gone mac (week of the announcement of no further pc development). Someone mentioned a macmini as a pc daw...if you want to see something funny demo a mini, open up garageband & try to load the demo songs...

Are you talking about the ones with the shitty G4 processor, right? Because they load very smooth using a 1,66 Core Duo.

On topic: I don't think PCs deserve running Logic at all...

The pro audio workstation market is fairly lucrative despite not being enormous relative to all the home users out there (same applies to other high-end media markets like film/video). So, reliably sell a fully spec'ed $5000 tower every year or two to most of the users in that market, that adds up to a lot of iMacs that you have to sell to make the same money.

Emagic had a solid customer base, and had good penetration into the lucrative pro audio market, and a majority of their users were Mac users (something like 65%, I can't remember the exact number that was said back then). Drop Windows support, suddenly Logic users = Mac users, and it also gives Logic a nicely sellable, exclusive, prestige brand image. It's how Apple develops most of their software, it's all designed to make the Mac hardware both brand desirable and without practical need for alternatives.

Like I said, Apple know what they are doing in business. It's why they have a lot more money then most of us combined.

and don't forget that v5 was a relative pita to learn for many people (not if you have half a brain but apparently half a brain was still too much to ask from many people) whereas I could teach my cat how to use v7

Plus Apple have a much wider user-base than Emagic did - we're now seeing wider marketing of Logic across the Mac consumer base, a huge explosion in third party tutorials, books and training DVD's, a much wider exposure of the "Logic" brand, and direct access to Apple's technology and design/marketingh experience.

Logic's the better for it, despite all the newbies doing the "what's the point of the environment stuff - it should be removed, garageband has a better interface" dance etc

Oh, that and the fact that Logic hasn't been pirated so the community is less suspicious of new users and willing to help, as generally speaking anyone who's using Logic Pro hasn't warezed it, which is nice...

Plus us Mac users are just a better class of people than you freeware VST loving cheapskate PC freaks...
