/not too sure about the "gods of avantguard metal" title, though…I always thought their more "experimental" Mexican Radio phase was awful, and their earlier more "traditional" goods were the real gold…

That term is from the LP liner sheet( at least it's sth very similar).
I love Pandemonium to bits and think it's their best work (Mexican Radio & One in their Pride excluded...

Seriously underrated, indeed! Coroner has to be one of my all time favorites. No More Color or Mental Vortex probably would be my favorite album of theirs, but they never did a bad one. Absolutely love their use of unconventional metre, and Tommy was a fantastic guitarist.
