Ive been trying to get Glitch to "see" my midi commnands, and find that eitehr Glitch is some freebie program that people should lreran to pay for to get use out of, or Im an absolut dummie and wouldnt know midi if it was in my hosue smokin my weed. Imma go with the latter, lol.
Glitch is great, but how do i get it understand the midi command in Cubase Sx? When Im in the sequencer view I can actually call glitch up as a midi instrument, but the gui is actually the VSTinstrument above it in the list. A glitch in glitch maybe? Other than that, when using glitch as an insert effect, I cant gte it to 'learn' my midi commands, which Im sure is because its not a on a midi track in the squencer view but I cant get it on a midi track casue it doesnt show its gui,.. oh my aching head.. help?

No, Glitch is a VST plugin, you use it as "Effect", but you can controll it via MIDI data. It's that simple.

Insert Glitch into (let's say) a group channel which controls your drums. Put it somewhere into one of the 8 insert slots (if you want to use it before the faders, then in the first 6 slots - add a limiter "post-fader" to your liking or not).

Okay now that you have set that up, create a new MIDI channel. If you look in the dropdown menu of this channel (left side, activated inspector) for vSTi's to route to, you will realise that there can also be "Glitch" found (or any other VST plugin that can be controlled via MIDI CC#). Simply select Glitch as output for this MIDI channel, and as input you select your keyboard.

How you can control Glitch (keytriggers, etc) is written on the dblue page.

Thanks for the help, but you didnt udnerstand my question. if youll notice, i did exactly as you specified, and when i choose Glitch in my midi track (cubase seq view), I dont get a gui, instead I get the gui of the next avail instrument, synth, sampler, whatever, but not glitch. The thing is: Glitch needs a midid track in order for me to control it. I cant get glitch to come up on my midi track. so Im stuck. I thought I was missing something, but it seems that it might not be me after all....

Which version of SX are you using... 1, 2, 3?

I don't use Cubase at all myself so I can't really guide you through the specifics of the application. However, I can tell you that Glitch is an effect - it is not designed to work as an instrument in any way, shape or form. If you are inserting it as instrument somehow then it will not work.

Again, I'm not totally familiar with Cubase but I do know that it has audio tracks and MIDI tracks. I can tell you that Glitch is designed to go on an audio track, or, as Compyfox pointed out, a group/fx channel. It needs audio going into it somehow so it will not work simply on a MIDI track.

It is possible to control most of the parameters via MIDI, though it also possible to control the parameters (more in fact) via regular VST parameter automation. You may find it easier to work this way, you may not. Decide which is best I guess.

Several people here on KvR are successfully using Glitch in Cubase so it definitely works. Perhaps somebody can create a very basic project file for you with Glitch already configured and ready to go, to give you a hand in getting started.

that's not the way how to do it.
you have to use glitch as an insert on an audio track. then you set up a midi track and set its output to control the glitch vst, it should be available in the dropdown where you normally select your midi-interface's outputs. after you've done that you can use cc and notes to control glitch.

Im not sure thats so mucu different than what i was doing before, as I had Glitch ON an audio track, as an insert effect, and then I created a midi track to control it, but Ill try it when i get home. hopefully thats what i missing. I knew I needed midi to go to glitch, but didnt know how to implement that, when using as an insert effect, there was no way to get my keytboard to send midi to it, and no offense, dblue, but the manual isnt exactly up to date, lol. So i was confused on how to get midi to it. The way i could think of was to put it on a midi track and then try to send it cc's. I knew that glitch was an effect, and I knew it needed to be inserted as such, I was just confused about how to get midi to it. What i was doing was close, as I had it as an insert effect and then called up that instance of glitch on a midi track to control it, so i was using it on an audio track, but for some reason it doesnt work that way.hopefully thatll work now, thanks..

oh and Im using CubSx 3.1

None taken, I know I've been a lazy ass when it comes to updating the documentation. A large percentage of the docs for v1.2 still applies to v1.3 though. The methods of inserting the plugin and using it are the same, there are just a few new features to play with, a few usability tweaks, etc.

Anyway, hope you figure it out.

HI
not really ON-Topic, but maybe this is the right place for a very little feature request for glitch?
You can disable MIDI in, but sometimes it comes to situation, when glitch should not respond to Note-On messages (to avoid pattern switching by received MIDI notes), but still respond to controler messages (for live tweaking). An additional state on the DISABLE MIDI button ("only controller") would do the trick.

Already thought of it :) I'll get that into the next update.

So, if we're asking feature requests, i can have a go myself as well. Would it be possible to have multiple effects in global mode - so that each signal from a globally turned on effect would be routed in the next switched-on global effect. But maybe the design does not allow for this... Oh well, i can only ask.

Thanks a lot dblue,

UPDATE: Turns out, I was doing it right after all. Apparently you guys didnt read my post too deeply. I was putting Glitch on an audio track, as an insert effect. Then i would make a midi track to control it. BUT my dillema came to be when I tried to call up Glitchs gui while on the midi track and Glitch would not come up, instead, as I noted before, I would get the next instrument down, say a synth or whatever. That does appear to be a glitch in Glitch, or maybe a glitch in Cubase SX 3.1, Im not sure, all I know is that it does not happen with any other Midi device, just Glitch. I have not seen that noted as flaw in Glitchs documentation, so dblue, I want to call that one to your attention. You guys were great for helping me, but I hate to say it y'all didnt read well enough in my original post. This was all noted, though admittedly, I wrote like a five year old (frustration makes me type fast, lol). I had set up Glitch up properly the whole time, but the reason I couldnt tell that Glitch was responding was because I couldnt call it up while in the midi seq view in Cubase, as i would call up any other midi device GUI in Cubase. But as it turns out, it was responding to my commands, so it does work. The workaround to this as far as I can tell is to call the gui up while in the mixer view, and then you can see your CCs in action.

Currently it does not. In Glitch 2 things will be.... much different. :D

And just to preemptively answer the most common follow up question "When will Glitch 2 be ready?", I haven't even really started it yet so it'll be a while.

That's pretty bizarre. If Cubase's user interface is giving you something you did not expect, I'm really not sure where I'd start in trying to figure that one out, or if there's even anything I could do about it. Nobody else has mentioned this behaviour before and I know there are a few other Glitch/Cubase users here. Either nobody else has tried what you're doing yet, or they have and it's been working ok, or it doesn't work and they didn't bother to tell me yet.

Anyone else got any feedback?
