no one said it was a killer of anything.Jason Brian Merrill wrote:Yes i play guitar.
but any sound i got out of it was crap.
so im asking if anyone else got a decent sound out of it to show me -- as perhaps i dont know how to properly program the thing... funny, cause PODXT and even guitar rig seem to give me great sounds much faster than this thing.... but hey, if you need something free...
i just wouldnt go around calling it an amplitube 2 killer just yet.
i've gotten some good sounds out. i like them anyway. sound of an amp/effects/guitar tone (especially the later) is extremely subjective. what one likes, another thinks is shit.
don't use it if it doesn't suit you within the alloted time you've spent judging it, comparing freeamp to commercial products with teams of programmers, designers, and the most important ingredient money to pay them all.
you wont hurt anyones feelings

Hmmmm...Jason's "usually" got pretty good taste, I'm kinda curious myself...TotcProductions wrote:Out of curiosity, what sounds are you trying to achieve JBM?
BTW, there are many of you out there who carry a bit of weight due your opinions and creations over time...deal with it...

No ill-will intended
Thats where I am at building FreeAmp
And I think you are the first to mention a killer of anything by name? I try to discourage it
Thanks for trying it

I liked the Rock preset with my single coils... it has the "angry amp" sound.Jason Brian Merrill wrote:Yes i play guitar.

What kind of pickups are you using? What kind of input into the computer? I ran my PODxt bypassed (an empty "User" patch) through USB and it didn't sound great, not bad, but not great. I plugged straight into my sound card and it sounded much better. Who knows maybe one was hotter than the other.
I think you'll have to experiment. Not sure what sound you're looking for. For the high gain sizzling sound, maybe the GuitarSuite is better, but I kinda like the "all in one" package this gives you. I also prefer the rock/crunch tones from this.

JBM, I'm puzzled. FreeAmp does a good job in my opinion. Your assertion "any sound I got out of it is crap" is puzzling. And you seem to be implying that which is free is degraded in some way. What about Reaper, you like it, it's presently free. Get real, audio software developers often stun me with the high quality of their free offerings.

I dont get it, sorry guyz,
this thing, at best , couldnt touch ANY Guitar rig, or ANY other proggie that emulates a
guitar amp.
Ok, I know Flame me, whatever, but I DL'd it, and Im not even impressed, especially with
all the bullshit U guys are talking about it!!!!???
whaaaaa???
I think it a good start to a vsti, but not much more then that!
It couldnt even begin to touch what Guitar Rig, and Waves are doing... PLEASE!!!
Its at best , a good try at a begginners rated emulator, and if you think its that great,
Then you just havent played thru enuff guitar (REAL) amps, or DONT really play guitar to
call this a 'close' emulation of a guitar AT ALL!!!!
Come on, get to the music store, plug in a REAL guitar to a REAL AMP.....
this thing dont even come close, in fact, its Laughable, COME ON!!!
nice try anyway.

Hardcore amp tone buffs will never be happy with a sim.
A friend of mine plays on many major label releases... and he can't stand GR2 or Waves GTR.
He has the best guitars/amps that money can buy... and would never settle for anything less. But that's not where many folks are coming from...

Wow, it's one thing to say you don't like it. But to degrade a huge amount of hours that somebody has given to give you something free, that you are not forced to use, is pretty sick.
Nobody is required to like it. But it's your opinion. There are some people on here who have played through REAL amps, and they are saying it sounds fine. But attacking people like this, get a life.
If you don't want to use it, fine. If you want to let us know that you don't think it sounds good, fine. But insulting somebody's work like that? Nobody here really cares what you think.

By the way, there is no dongle, no cost, no false claims, no bragging, no begging you to use it, yet you complain that way? I don't get it.

Yea, but with such an uber-cool name as yours, why do you even need a guitar amp?6 6 6 wrote:I dont get it, sorry guyz, flame flame flame blah blah

Well, let me say I like this FreeAmp plugin WAY better than GuitarRig. GuitarRig sounds plastic-y and fake.
Now between FreeAmp and Amplitube, that's a harder decision...
EDIT: Forgot to say, this FreeAmp works really well with highly distorted leads! The gate is so nice that you don't get those weird noise "aftershocks" after each note like in Amplitube.
