are these tones you are after 'single' tones, or the results of studio mixed double tracked tone???
zoom505 eh?
i've heard great things about those old zoom stomps..
keep in mind ages here; i'm 31. i grew up eating metallica, megadeth, and slayer for breakfast. old metallica, old megadeth, and old slayer.. like the good stuff! throw in some anthrax, mod, iron maiden, and metal church in with bits of venom, exodus, nuclear assault, death angel, sabbath, and motorhead and that's basically my youth soundtrack
i have no idea, nor do i care, what nu metal, or black metal is, so my idea of a good tone is relative to my classic metal tastes.

can you also elaborate on 'muddy' ... what does that mean? frequencies smearing together?Jason Brian Merrill wrote:well, like i said, it seems like a real "muddy" tone, and yes, it DOES seem responsive but it also seems very "dark" and undefined. I just would like to hear what people have done with it. I like brighter but responsive tones.
I do like the synth feature alot too btw.
I dont want to act unappreciative. Just wondering what all the praise is for when, to me, it sounds sort of crappy![]()
basically, im thinking im doing something wrong.

ahhh you like slayer... good... that is a good start.
but I dont hear any of that in the tones you posted. Im after good single tones. Good, playing tones. My gf is heavily into slayer (just saw them in montreal recently) and has shown me some of their stuff, and man, they have some tight guitar tones. I could never picture (please, no offense intended) any of the tones I have heard thus far coming from freeamp ever in a slayerish context.

undefined low end, smearing, not tight, unfocused...grymmjack wrote:can you also elaborate on 'muddy' ... what does that mean? frequencies smearing together?Jason Brian Merrill wrote:well, like i said, it seems like a real "muddy" tone, and yes, it DOES seem responsive but it also seems very "dark" and undefined. Hehe, my apologies, didn't mean to come off as offensive...wasn't offended actually.Jason Brian Merrill wrote:hey man, no need to get defensive... im just saying i really like the rythym sounds of "the darkness" alot.. just a big, lively tone. I would love to see you get a similar tone and show me how, especially with a free plug!!!TotcProductions wrote:WTF does that mean? I know for a fact I could step all over them...and piss on'em too while I'm at it. That's it, the war is on....more audio coming tomorrow, when I'm not drunk.Jason Brian Merrill wrote:

hehe, best I could do to draw out the strings and fret board..and keep a tabulature-like image...The downstrikes represent the frets, and the 3 dashes represent the space inbetween each, and, of course, the string. I don't think it's a big secret, the old NuMetal guys used to do it all the time. I'm sure people were doing it way before then too.
Peace

you mean, using the lower fifth right?
you can make some huge chords with that...
jimi hendrix was the first i think.

yikes, were they on crack? hehe, no i guess they had some redeming qualities for their time. I did a bunch of songs with them actually, back in the day with my radioshack karaoke machine.grymmjack wrote:

ahh no the demo wasn't any 'band' emulation at all that i made. just a high gain sound i was previouly unable to reach with the old versions myself.Jason Brian Merrill wrote:ahhh you like slayer... good... that is a good start.

keep in mind slayer relies quite heavily on jeff hanniman and kerry kings combined sound with araya filling up the bottom end and lombardo working the deep bottoms.
i heard slayer isn't the same members, so i stopped listening after seasons in the abyss.. dunno new slayer tone.
the tone on seasons is awesome, but either guitar in isolation isn't that hot. imo anyway, the tagteam jeff/kerry is HUGE tone.

well, perhaps i will learn more about this nice vst tomorrow after a good nights sleep. Goodnight folks.Guitar's my main instrument though...so I tend to get a bit emotional about it.
@Grymm: Goddamnit man, I'm trying to go to sleep!!!jk...I'll be right back with the preset I made for the comparison so you can download it. Nope, no Drop D at all actually, it's a chording trick that makes the guitar chord seem lower than it really is. It's easier than bothering with Drop D. Makes for better 'Chunking' too than a typical power chord...would look like this on the frets:
---|---|---|---|---|
---|---|---|---|---|
---|---|---|---|---|
---|---|---|---|---|
---|---|-1-|---|---|
---|---|-1-|---|---|
