I have talked couple of bands "similar" to Hocico like Aslan faction and asked what they use distortion. They say that they use actually quite little distortion and that vocal sound is produced by using pitchsifters. Maby they pulled my leg

When you have a shitty CPU, you bless the render to disc function...snif
And when not, Some synths eats your processor.
And about the clipper, it's near us, and thanks for asking, you're the first who ask, as payment, the plug in will be called with your name: Mighty Pea!
(due the lack of imagination creating the name)

And yeah, rendering is a godsent for us poor lowspec bastards, allthough the mda effects are all reasonably light on my system, thankfully.
