i reckon a lot of times people come in, with a sound in their head they want to recreate from a song they like, and forget to use 2 guitars. a lot of good rich guitar sounds are made by double-tracking 2 guitars with different tones, panned left and right....i dont even play guitar and i can hear it in a lot of songs.
so if you want to make sounds - experiment. seriously there is not reason why you cant achieve almost any tone....what with the different amp types and settings, cab types, eq, distortion types - it all comes down to putting forth a bit of effort to learn what each different setting does....a tutorial that explained what each amp type etc was good for would be handy, but im sure were all smart enought to play around and work things out for now.
seriously - a double tracked set of freeamps can sound pretty convincing even using an unprocessed soundfont of an electric guitar....experiment!
oh btw, the name i hear has changed from FreeAmp SE to jsut FreeAmp? The vst is still listing itself as "FreeAmpSE2.0" when i load it into an effect slot in FL Studio 6.

This is much better:TotcProductions wrote:it's a chording trick that makes the guitar chord seem lower than it really is. It's easier than bothering with Drop D. Makes for better 'Chunking' too than a typical power chord...would look like this on the frets:

btw. I'm still waiting for a good high gain preset - IMHO FreeAmp has some good clean tones but it is too hard (at least for me) to tweak it to give me some good high gain.

Oh and if you want to know what i consider a good high gain sound go to Andy Sneap's forum or to HC Forums and search for "clip" and "5150" or "Powerball" or "Rectifier/Recto" or "Diezel"

I find it interesting, both here and the POD forum, whenever someone criticizes a tone - they are looking for a very specific chug metal tone. You never hear "I can't play any SRV stuff through here" or "I can't use this when playing Eric Johnson songs".
I like a real variety, especially in the low/mid gain sounds; and am therefore very pleased with FreeAmp.

OK i've found a great example:
Click here and listen to rhytm guitar on "Nemesis (SE) Updated" if you can provide FreeAmp preset that will nail this tone i'll be in heaven.
IMHO For now the best high gain ampsim is Soundspectral XmasAmp.

That's because it is much easier to get a good rock and moderate gain sounds from an average free or commercial ampsim.MadChicken wrote:I find it interesting, both here and the POD forum, whenever someone criticizes a tone - they are looking for a very specific chug metal tone. So they're NOT "crap" then?Mutant wrote:That's because it is much easier to get a good rock and moderate gain sounds from an average free or commercial ampsim.MadChicken wrote:I find it interesting, both here and the POD forum, whenever someone criticizes a tone - they are looking for a very specific chug metal tone. Actually I find SRVs tone to be quite complex and hard to nail. Maybe it's the seven-amps-at-a-time thing.

Hehehe for rockers maybe not, but for metalheads they are.MadChicken wrote:So they're NOT "crap" then?Mutant wrote:That's because it is much easier to get a good rock and moderate gain sounds from an average free or commercial ampsim.MadChicken wrote:I find it interesting, both here and the POD forum, whenever someone criticizes a tone - they are looking for a very specific chug metal tone. You're quite right....I've yet to hear an ampsim fully capable
of producing that "nest of angry bees in a tin can" tone!

actually, SRVs tone would be hard to nail with this sim as well, for me. And that is also essential, or at least an approximation or interpretation of it with my own style overlaid.MadChicken wrote:I find it interesting, both here and the POD forum, whenever someone criticizes a tone - they are looking for a very specific chug metal tone. Is it wrong of me to assume that SRV's tone was as much in his fingers and brain as in the equipment he used? I think he would sound like SRV playing a Variax through Cyanide 2.

Well that "nasty bees" producing amp is worth ~1200$ second hand.CapnLockheed wrote:You're quite right....I've yet to hear an ampsim fully capable

So...
The first "nasty bees" ampsim probably will make it's creator a millionaire (if commercial and reasonably priced) or a God (if free).
