Hello,
Acon Digital Media is about to release a free "EffectChainer" plugin for VST and DirectX hosts. It is presently in beta phase and will be for free after release too.
Everybody who is interested in testing this plug can download it from the link below.
It would be nice if you could give feedback regarding bugs or suggestion for improvement via email pm or in this thread.
Features:
- available as VST and DirectX version
- operates itself as VST and DirectX host
- load and process as much effects as your pc endures
- supports up to stereo input / output
- handsome interface providing easy access to all features (pop-up menus, mute / solo function, drag&drop for effect order)
- effect editor including complete parameter and program- (VST) / preset- (DirectX) handling
- save and load functions for effect chains
Link:
http://www.acondigital.com/software/ec01Beta.exe
Installation:
- the VST version of EffectChainer (EffectChainer.dll) will be copied to Steinberg\VstPlugins\Acon Digital Media folder in the 32bit program files folder and appears as "EffectChainer" or "EffectChainer.dll" in your host.
- the DirectX version is displayed as "Acon Digital Media EffectChainer".
- when you use "EffectChainer" for the first time, it scans all available plugins on your system. The VST-path is by default set to Steinberg\VstPlugins in program files directory. In case you use another directory just change the VST-path and perform a new scan in the context menu.

the thing that would make this VERY interesting is if it allows you to run the plugs in the chainer at higher samplerates than the project the chainer is inserted in.
IMHO it's only plugs that need to run at high rates, the audio doesn't really benefit that much from 96khz and above.
Kind regards
Dave Rich

During installation the option to choose into which folder to copy the EffectChainer.dll
Also save a copy of EffectChainer.dll into the original setup-folder
All so another FR
a mono version, or support for mono DX & vst plug-ins
seems to be working well so far BTW

Hey, would it be possible to disable the scanning of plugins...and just load DLLs, like you do in Minihost and Cantabile for example? Just curious.
BTW, it crashed Minihost while scanning for plugs...but I've got so frigging many...it could've been anything that led to the crash.
Peace

Loading it within Christian Budde's VST host plugin for Winamp didn't go too well. The window was twice as high as it should, and had a very small width, making it impossible to use the GUI. Reloading it resulted in a crash. if you can get that working, there would finally be a good solution to running multiple VSTs at once within a Winamp DSP host. (currently, the only method that works well is to use a commercial VST to DirectX wrapper within AdaptX 3.5, which is buggy as well as hard to find, after 3.6 which lacks Winamp2 support and isn't free was released)
I then tried loading the DX version within AdaptX 3.5, and then running two of my VSTs using it. That worked significantly better; the GUI appeared as it should, and the processing worked. Both of the plugin windows were however slightly bigger (a bit of extra space at the bottom. the same amount for both) than they should had been, and the controls responded to the mouse as if they were a bit higher up than they really were.
Aside from those issues, one thing that could be improved is the GUI system. It is quite frustrating having the plugin's window be a modal one, thus making it impossible to adjust more than one at a time, and to swicth the state or order of or add/remove effects without closing the plugin window.
If you would improve the GUI and fix the problems however, it would become the best effects rack I have seen so far.

Any chance to have a "master preset" so that the chain will save with a VST host and working with the fxp system (speaking about the VST version of course ...) ? Maybe simply save what's in the current chain into a preset chunk
Very useful utility.

I'd like to find out, but the file EffectChainer.dll is missing on my machine. I'm not sure, what I've done wrong, but it's simply not there. Any attempt to use one of the other DLLs failed (they simply do not export the 'main' or 'VSTPluginMain')...#The fREaK! wrote:Loading it within Christian Budde's VST host plugin for Winamp didn't go too well.
