You will be able to I think. They said that you would be able to control the range of each parameter. I believe that would allow you to invert it....by setting the low higher than the high, or whatever. That is going to be cool.

what does that mean?

right now in Live5 you can assign only 1 parameter per knob/slider - I interpret this feature to mean that you can assign multiple parameters to a single knob... very nice if so
Oh yeah, that is REEEAly nice. What would be sweet is if you could invert it as well so you could assign crossfades on individual channels, open one filter and close another, etc.

I think that is how it will work...

Ah do you mean like Ohmforce plugins where if you turn a knob the right way it will set to start auto turning? That'd be cool if in Live you can set key command "E" to do a macro(ie gradually turn the Lowpass EQ at a rate that you record).

From the new 6 page at ableton:

Multi-destination MIDI and key mappings. For instance, with a single knob you could open a filter cutoff, increase the resonance, decrease the feedback of a delay and increase the project tempo. All assigned parameters can be inverted and scaled to a particular range for accurate control.

Damn the effect racks look sweet : D pallel routing, vst's, & what appears to a combinator like 8 meta controls for controlling various functions - damn!!!!!!
I'm feeeling stoked.

Huh. I'll have to try it but I'm underwhelmed so far. A bunch of stuff I can easily get from third party plugins, limited video support, and a more flexible freeze feature. No improvements to automation handling, no help on the primitive arrange page, no track grouping, no screensets or dual-display support, no new key mappings for toggling windows etc. Very little help at all with the big workflow issues as far as I can tell. I'm sure I'll for over the $120 just for dual core but otherwise yawn.

And WTF with the $199 Sampler in a tiny window at the bottom of the screen? If there's any plugin that needs a lot of screen real estate it's a sampler. And a bunch of bundled GM samples?

I have a feeling Logic's going to be getting more use around here now that it doesn't look like the things I wanted to see handled in Live 6 have been addressed.

the racks look great... the freeze is sweet too... being able to cut, copy, paste and automate frozen clips and then convert to audio! scruptious

Minus all the crazy cable routing and retriggering you can do in Reason. This looks a lot more like Kore than Reason.

you can save the group like it is one effect in the browser and then drag it into any project. You select the device chain, control-G (or Apple-G) and drag it into the browser.... saved

Now though, it will include any 3rd party plug-ins (that is how I read it) so if you have say a Zebra2 preset that you like to play with a Kjaerhus compressor, you can save them together as their own device.
Sweet! :D
...You *can* do this in Live5 using MIDI tracks (...not audio, though...), but it's sort of a *fake*:
create your synth/effects chain with either Live or 3rd party or mix on a MIDI track...dbl clik a session cell on that MIDI track (this creates a blank MIDI clip)...name the clip whatever you like...drag that clip to a folder you've set up for just such a purpose as to save all your custom synth/fx chains and you're done. All synth and fx assignments are saved to that clip. Pull it into a project and it will have saved all settings to that blank MIDI clip
This aint what's being proposed for L6, but hey- it's already in your L5 toolbox :hihi: sorry if this is old territory for some, but it's a great convenience that can be exploited (time savers are always cool 8) )

I am also not too impressed. I hoped they would go more expermiental. The midi editing should have seen a major overhaul, same with the automation. In Reason you can use the step sequencer to control any parameter, why isn't this possible in reason with a midi clip for example (bezier curves would have been nice too).

still not possible to group tracks or even add simple notes. Why do warped audio clips always have do adjust to bpm count? also not possible to isolate a snare from a drumloop for good.

I really hoped this update would have adressed those small, but important usability issues and made live more modular in general instead of adding effects and stuff like sampler.

Totally. Everything in this version is pretty old hat. I was really hoping they push the envelope and deal with the rough edges in the workflow instead of making it into a glorified synth workstation. Bleh. It must have taken them a lot of work to get dual-core up and running because just about everything else is plugins.

You can use midiclips to control parameters now.
It is a woraround though, involving the use of a third party utility such as modi yoke.

Those arn't small issues imho, as a long time Ableton user I'm pretty disappointed too. Some of the new fx look interesting, and the ways to combine them. There's not a lot else in the rest of the deal that is much use to me though, I don't do video (wouldn't use QT if I did), dont have a dual processor machine (yet) Can't afford $200 for a sampler I can't use in another app, etc, etc.

The midi is still going to be shit, follow actions has not been updated, you still can't view more than one automation lane per track at the same time, and they want even more money from me for another probably buggy release.

I feel sad tonight, I bought into Ableton at version2, took part in ALL beta tests since then, and now actually feel like I'm off the gravy train completely :( I think its bollocks.
