Hello,
I have some Direct X plugins that I bought 10 or 11 years ago, that worked fine up until my last hardware upgrade. I am and have been running XP home on the previous and current system. What I changed out was the motherboard and cpu. The plugins show up in my programs list and also appear to install / uninstall properly, however they do not show up in my audio software plugin list. I have never updated the plugins as I have never had any problems with them. Here's the dirt.
system: amd sempron 2600+ dualcore cpu/ gigabyte k88 motherboard/ 1GB pc2700 ddr ram / Delta 1010 interface. My audio software is: Vegas 6.0 /Sound Forge 6.0 /Acid 3.0. The plugins are from Waves and are the original versions released around 94 or 95 I think: Rennasaince Compressor and Maxxbass. I have the original Native Power Pack and it works fine ( L1 maximizer / Trueverb / EQ's etc. Any thoughts would be appreciated. thanks dv

You had no troubling installing them on XP during installation?

No problem at all installing the software. I've reinstalled XP several times since 2001 and the only glitz I had was sometimes Maxxbass would have to be reinstalled. I am thinking about buying a cheap ($99) used computer system with ME or 98 or 2000 installed just to see if that does make a difference. (Austin has a bunch of used comp shops/ tons of $99 deals). One thing i did have to do when I built this latest system was buy a new copy of XP, cause the original copy I bought came up missing some files & would not install ( thanks microsoft)! Maybe something has changed in the later XP releases although I am still leaning toward a motherboard/processor problem. dv

It's a way what is it with software. You can not expect to work it correctly when it's "new", nevermind when it's "old". I'm still waiting for fixes for some very old software what were never working right. Still not bugfixes and probably never.

do your apps share a "plug-in manager" utility which may have them disabled/hidden? or their registry entries may be screwed? i don't have your apps, but do use dx in sonar, which has such a utility

with waves dirx some plugs have trouble on dualcore is all i know

i have an ancient waves bundle that i dont use anymore. but the dirx versions still show in sx, waveshell doesnt since its too old.

Another remote possibility is if XP was installed and your not the administrator, sometimes Dir-X plugs won't show up.

First off, I must say that I am totally impressed with you "first responders". The one thing that I picked up on was,"plug-in manager". I'll have to check it out, but I went from CEP 2.0 to Vegas when Sonic Foundry sold out....and Vegas has a Media manager..hmmmmmm...I will get back thanks again dv

Well, I checked out and got rid of Sony media manager, deleted and reinstalled the 2 plugins. Still not showing up in my audio software plugins lists'. They are shown in the add/remove programs list.!? The native power pack is all there and functioning. Maxxbass & rennasaince compressor= MIA. is my first dual core processor. Second new install of XP. They worked on XP on the old 'single core'. Looks like a hardware issue. Well I wanted another beast for graphics, I guess it's time to shell out anothere $99 + decent sound card. Thanks again for all your help! dv
