As announced in my latest newsletter a new bank named "Basic FM" was nearing completion. It will include 2 banks of 64 presets made by FM synthesis with many of the operators using additive waves for more overtones. Well, it is finished!

Now the delima; it will be two weeks before all the info can get put on my regular web site. Not a problem for me but I understand that many of you don't like to wait for new presets for Rhino. What I'll do is provide a direct purchase link to ShareIt for those who can't wait. For the curious, I'll email a patchlist and audio demo upon request until the web page is updated. Judging by the incredibly awesome and useable presets you have done so far, you got my vote, heading to buy this puppy right now, thank you for pricing it for the average VSTer, and thank you for helping to make Rhino the best vFM out there !

Thanks. Although it may seem strange to mimic monosynths with FM, it actually opens up a new door of timbre possibilities that other synths can't create. I love playing with the "FM Ratio" sliders while performing for unexpected tonalities at just the right moment.

somehow i get the feeling Daniel needs some of us to buy this so he can pay his provider bill and get his website back up

2 week delay
I guess I can wait since I've gone over my budget for the summer already and NAMM is starting today

what many of us are really going to need is some sort of automatic tracking and login to the website so we know exactly what we've already bought and what we have yet to buy. that feature would justify a 2 week delay, since I don't see Daniel slowing down anytime soon.

(by the way I am loving the e-piano selections in BnB3 and looking forward to more. there's a few that just read my mind for what should happen with velocity changes)

It's nothing that drastic! My provider simply went on holiday and can't update it until getting back.

Basic FM features a few more electric pianos, also. You can get by clicking on the link in my post above or by PayPal using my standard e-mail address.

Cool - we really needed something that made fuller use of Rhino's own synthesis features rather than using imported wavs. I'll be getting this.

Not just Rhino... Too many soft synths rely too much on imported waves

I wasn't meaning to imply the wav based banks are a bad thing - I really like them. But Rhino does have "pure" (using that word again) synthesis capabilities too so it's good to redress that balance (while also providing a masterclass in FM synthesis)

again some really usable e-piano sounds -- probably more if I bothered to manipulate the exposed controls.
what makes these really work is how well they respond to velocity and expression. it takes a 1st class sound designer to work that into a preset.
i keep looking for a 'sampler' for that perfect e-piano sound, but i keep coming back to daniels's rhino presets when it comes time to play.
