Look at FL-Studio XXL: What a bunch of instruments and effects included for 350€....

The VFM of Live is not so good, and as others have commented, their business model seems to be an annual update requiring $119 from existing users. The core update of each version of FL Studio is free, and the additional synths/samplers they bring out in any given year have a substantial discount for existing users.

Not that I'm biased in any way, as you'll see from my current sig.

Yeah, but FL Studio is a "toy". You get what you pay for.

What I really want to know is will we be able to run third party vsti's in live 6 while it is in rewire slave mode? I'm going to go insane if this is not the case!!..
.:marsh:.

Yes. I think tha the upgrade price is quite high...
- The sampler looks fine, but it doesn't have autoslicing as far as i know ;
- the rack feature might make us able to layer & chain vstis in a single channel, the "deep freeze" might free up a bit creativity,

but 100 euros for only that, when EnergyXT is 49 and makes more... bof.
I mean, even if the sampler looks cool, it not that cheap !
I'd better buy a simple version of FL instead of upgrading ;)

The apparent lack of an autoslicng feature in the ostensibly 'fully integrated' sampler, given Abletons warping technology (which effectively 'slices' audio, just without keymapping it) is something I just can't understand.
I'll still grab the upgrade - just seems strange that one would have to buy a (cheaper & able to be used cross hosts) third party vsti for autoslicing, even another sampler - rather than live's own integrated 'native' sampler.
Seriously - what's that all about?

Great point! I want to know also. The announcement of LIve 6 says that Cubase, Protools etc. can send midi to Live as a slave to use Live instruments so I don't know if that means ONLY Live instruments or any VSTi. I sent and email to support to get a clarification and will post here if I find out anything definitive.

My fear is that since it says "Live instruments" it only means Operator, Simpler and Sampler.

Those that can, do. Those that can't, argue about it on k-v-r

Unfortunately, from what I have read so far on the Abes forum where Alpha testers are answering questions, I think this IS the case - i.e. Live still does not host VSTs when in ReWire slave mode.

I am pleased that you can at least sequence Live's instruments from within the ReWire host though - it really bugged me having bought Operator to find I could not sequence it from Sonar too (over Rewire).

it seems hardly anybody wants groove quantization. I don't know why they don't implement that.

that's all I want in an update

autoslice is what I was hoping for. I'll probably upgrade at some point, but as it is makes it less urgent to do so.

I second (or third, or fourth, or fifth) these comments on autoslicing! It would improve workflow if one didn't have to, for example, render and export wav, slice in recycle, load slices from browser into vst (impulse or 3rd party). (Of course third party slicing vsts can be used, such as Intakt--I don't like the algorithm it uses b/c there doesn't seem to be auto cross-fading shizzle--but why not something built into the program (i.e. live)?!?)

i think someone mentioned he managed to rewire live 6 to live 5 (master)... or was it the other way around...and it could host vst's in rewire salve mode.

i may have read incorreclty tho. i'll look for that post and see if i can find it

as far as I understand the "rack feature", it seems to be a key feature, maybe the reason I ll upgrade, even if fruity is also tempting as "the best 300$ I can spend", and for it's lifetime upgrade.

I just spotted this too (after the previous post) so perhaps it IS possible in Live 6 - I certainly hope so!

Often with Live it is the smaller details not even listed in the marketing blurb that make all the difference in terms of workflow and creativity.

For example, the macros discussed in AdamJay's thread sound really interesting.... and the screenshots (about 7 of them spread throughout that thread) and discussion have made Live 6 much more appealing to me than the actual advertisements have so far...

Agreed - the Racks look fantastic. Robert Hanke has been answering questions about them here:

The Racks seem to be so powerful from what Robert said in response to my question... I don't now see much need for buying the sAmpler at all...

Along with the dual core support, I think this is the real winning feature for me (although as I said there's loads of smaller stuff hidden away in this update that makes it MUCH more significant than I first thought...)
