my main problem is 'voting'.

I feel we are all grown individuals to understand we all have aqcuired taste. I find alot of entries this month to be top notch but in the end, 10 will be chosen.
We shouldn't take anything personal based on votes.
IE: this month has a lot of EXCELLENT tracks but i feel they don't quite fit the genre hybrid criteria.

I'm sure a lot of you guys are the same as me....you don't always go with your first attempt in the Monthly Contest.

My first idea for this month, which I (rightly) abandoned, was a cross between Music Hall and Disco.
Using the words from the George Formby song Leaning On The Lampost and featuring the ukelele rather than guitar.

As I had a little time today I decided to go back and follow it through in a 'thrown together' fashion using RMX, Milestone,
Sounds a tad like a poor mashup type thing but what the heck!

First of all

ANY commentray between Shush and myself (i feel) is purley for entertainment purposes, and furthermore, there are absoloutley no hard feelings involved here.

If ya strip that out, ya get Me and Mello.....
If a person has to say that my composition is the equivalent of a remedial guitar lesson (and of coarse he has the right to do so..), then I have the right to express my opinion. I believe I have.

Ok, haven't reviewed in a while so here goes:

Oursvince_Spanish Samba: This has a very cool groove to it. The rhythm guitars give it a a nice push. Sounds like you are using samples or did you sample your own playing? Either way, it's a nice uptempo tune.

Petrudamsa_Balkanic: There are some nice colorful melodies in here. There are parts that don't hold my attention and then all of a sudden you jump in with an interesting melodic sound. Not bad.

Unfocused_Dueling keyboards: The hybrid idea is good but the end result didn't do much for me. Well executed though.

Scoops_Spain: Another well executed Scoops tune. You did exactly what you had intended to do. The disco flavor gives this tune that little something extra that IMO lacks in Corea's elektric band stuff. Who's doing the guitar parts?

Freeztar_Samba country: Another one with a really catchy melody! This is "Margarita on the beach" music.

peppy197_Deep lagoon music: Hmmm. I honestly don't know what to comment on this one. It's elegantly messy? It is interesting.

ScottHagel_10 commandments: I like the idea of a robotic voice claiming to be "your god". Actually, the idea of reciting the 10 commandments is good. Just wondering what you were trying to accomplish with the musical hybrid. The music doesn't give the "10 commandments" idea justice. Sorry, my 2 cents.

Markleford_Prarie Gamelan: Another well executed hybrid. I personally go for the outcome of a song when i consider voting regardless of the means to get to said outcome. That being said, for curiosity sake, do you play harmonica?

Loveless_Endstrumental: Didn't know hardware and software were musical genres:hihi:

Dreibel_Disturbulence: This is the music you would hear in some B flick when the main male character walks into a bar. Then, that female across the way sips her Cosmo, looks into his eyes and...it's on!!! What does it have to do with reviewing your song? Absolutely nothing.

Barnadine_Refrain: Now they embrace each other and dance cabaret style. She stares at him....he leans forward slowly...and plants the big kiss *smack*

RockstarNot_Gilligans Pride: Leave it to Rockstar not to ruin the movie!!! Good execution of a reggae song but i don't hear the hybrid. Just another remake of a U2 song.

Oddsbods Finger_Empty Depot: Nice melodic tune. Instrumentation well executed

Laguna Rising_The crab song: Man, i was hoping for the "crab people" from South Park Nice little pop ditty for a Disney show. I could hear jolly kiddie singing over this one. Anyhow, minimal genre hybrid I guess.

Johnny Quest_Nobody knows: Wow...what a great tune! This one caught me right away. Love the vocal manipulation.

1_2 Many_Sacred mask dance: As strange as it may seem, i used to work at a club that played alot of reggae stuff and occassionally, you would hear stuff like this. It was trippy. A lot of ganja dancing.

Mellotronaut_The Joanna Polka lesson: I already commented on this one. Your singing sounds confident here. I hear reggae influence. I really don't hear the polka but a well made tune nonetheless.

Now, as you stand over the ledge.....you know what you must do. Clean the window sil of course Although i don't hear the hybrid, the eerie melody sits nice.

Max el Bega_Mixmax: the mix is done really well but....there seems to be something missing.....hmmmm Ah yes, i know...DIRECTION!!:hihi: ...do what you do but now mix the genres so they play simultaneously :-

Funkylime_Allthegoodthings: I like when delays are applied to guitars in the fashion that you have done with this song. I did this with my Feb. entry and went a little overboard with the effect but it just works. Nice!

Thomekk_Chinese Rastas of Canterbury: Yup, it works! Thomekk signature guitar rastified with a blend of won ton soup.
Catchy little ditty here Thom. Can't help picturing the Pirates of the Carribean though.

Dunks_Out of sight: Well, i hear basically what has been done many a times. Executed well but nothing sparks.

streifentier _Darling in the sky: I REALLY wish this could have been sung by a female geisha girl with a nice bun on her head and a body scrub sponge. Looking at me as if saying, "ready"? You almost sound like Ralph Hutter from Kraftwerk!
Nice ditty but i hear estrogen for vox.

Moekii_160degrees: Common hybrid, however, nicely done.

Fritz Fiedler_High afternoon: Very nice. The classic blues vocals fit very well.

Beardedone_Technazz: This too has a Kraftwerkish feel to it. Nice mix with the percussive jazz elements. Gives it a kick.

vurt_ambientglitchbeatboxinahumanstylee: This is not relaxing Vurt! Sounds like a rapper rehearsing.

gag3_GenreJelloSalad: Well executed!! A Bungle like "California" vibe which sounds awesome!

even7_fulgerul apare: It's short. It's mellow trippy. It's ganja.

Patrick9_Choral Trance: I really don't know what to say about this track. It starts out with eerie monk vox which i never liked personally, then it goes into this techno beat with a female sounding like she is singing along with the radio in her office. Not a bad thing but not my thing

Choc_Classical & dnB2 :This one didn't grab me. The melody sounds generic IMO. Also the BPM is a bit on the slow side.

nikp2000_Also Sprach Zarathustra : This too didn't grab me. I am picky when it comes to classical tunes but i do like the "Theme to 2001" as i have come to associate the classical tune to. You did a good job playing it, just not my thing.

groovesys_The Ancient Banjo Under the Sun: Another one well executed. Unexpected change of pace with the banjos that works quite well. You really nailed the prog rock bit at the start.

DrApostropheX_My Brain's Inside The Computer (Juju Highlife/Synthpop): This is a fun catchy tune. Everything blends well. I especially like the female bits.

Ah. But then I failed on two accounts. Because this is NOT meant as a window cleaning kind of a song, and I DID try to mix to quite different genres. If I just ended up making a noisy backdrop to a sad melody then ... well ... then I guess that's OK too.

I think mine was the longest review you did there, so that's something, at least.

Hey, Thanks for the comps man.

There are actually 2 completely distinct guitar parts (and players) in this song. That's why the recipe called out for 2 Les Pauls. Scoops guitar is in the left channel, playing the head. And any part that is in unison, is Scoops only. Jeffs guitar is in the right channel, playing the harmony. Jeff starts the guitar solo, Scoops adds the harmonization on top of his towards the end.

There is a difference between doing a critical review of a song and posting personal insultations and lies. You can criticise my song as well, but don't insult a person you don't know.
