so much talk about dual core performance improvements but no word on single core/processor performance. i desperatelly hope cpu issues present so far (arrange view lag in high zooms) are delt with

I wanted dual view as well as dual core!
Maybe for 6 dot something?
If I understand correctly with Universal device support I can use my Ableton fx instruments in other hosts?
Am I goofy or is that what it means?

teehee, no... that means you can save any sort of fx combination (live native and vst) by dragging a clip to the browser. when you next drop that saved clip into a track in any other live set it will show up with the fx's like you last tweaked them

Clip or no clip you can save racks of plugins. Put them in serial /parallel, nest them inside each other, control which chains (signal paths) you are hitting and if the plugins dont use CPU while idling you dont use any to have them ready to go. All that and macros to control them. It is very hip !

Live 6 still doesn't allow vsts when rewired. According to some comments on the forum this isn't actually possible with *any* rewire slave, although I can't see any reason off the top of my head why this would be true.

Possibly some kind of licensing restriction that the Props put in? Like that thing in FL where you can't run buzzmachines inside FL as a VST.

When I have FL6 slaved to Live I can load VSTs in fl6, but like you 'all said, it doesn't work the other way around for some reason.

I have been disappointed with every announcement of an update from Ableton, and very happy when I got them anyway. You do not really buy Live, you rent it from Ableton for ten bucks a month. Once a year they give you some nice new things.

I have, though, given up on the idea that it can ever be my main DAW. Its arrange section is really not any better than Reason's. At least it records audio, something Reason does not.

I love Live to death. It is a wonderful scratchpad, beat creator, and synth workstation with some advanced features, but I am still going to need Sonar for my complete tracks. I hate that you cannot see both views at the same time, even if you have two monitors. The GUI of the arrange page tires me out faster than any other arranger. The session view is brilliant and intuitive. The arrange view is not.

The Abes have a vision and they are sticking to it. It is a great ride, but it is hard for me to imagine someone investing in this as it hits close to a thousand dollars in the next couple years, compared to what you get in Sonar or Logic.

Huh. Must have something to do with the Live audio engine or rewire implementation I guess.

I'm getting to that point too. I was hoping that this version would be the one that made it possible but now I'm starting to think I should just forget about the arrange view entirely.

Average Performance w/Intel Mac with V5 (no Dual Core support) - 27-35%
Average Performance w/Intel Mac with V6 (Dual Core support) - 14-15%

I'm sorry if this makes me an asshole, but I disagree with you. Ableton Live allows you to arrange just as well as any other DAW software. Sure it does not have cool speed tools like Logic or Cubase, but in terms of what your can produce with it, its right up there with em.

I tried Logic, and found that I rather have a musical sanctuary then an industrial park. Logic = Technician, Live = Musician.
