FL crashed on me while in the piano roll going thru the patterns. Now when I try to start it up again all I get is
"FL.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close".
Please, how do I fix this? :help:

Post

have you rebooted?
sometimes after a crash in winxp, the program stays in memory, and it is necessary to manual end the program in the task manager or reboot completely.

Yep I rebooted but nothing.

hmm. I would run the diagnostics program and post it at loop talk: it sounds like something weird. Is there a unique plugin you are using, or one particular .flp, or is it anyand everything - the thing just won't run. If the latter, then I have no good ideas, sorry, beyond a reinstall.

That error message comes up when FL's main program folder is fragmented to hell. Certainly not the only possibility by any means but it's something I've encountered several times.

Post

are you suggesting a defrag on the hd?

Well it just won't run.
If I try to uninstall and reinstall will that work?
Do I lose my projects? Do I have to reload all my vst's

Post

defrag came to mid here when i read it. Lucypickle, what exactly is happening when you're trying to start FL Studio again?

I think all she gets is ""FL.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close" ...
sorry, couldn't resist.

When I click the FL icon I get the fruity logo to come up on my desktop then I get a FL.exe box that pops up that says "FL.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close".

That's as far as I get

Haha

Oi read it wrong. I thought you got that messege once when it crashed

btw I tried to reset settings as well

I would just back up all of your flp's and reinstall the newest version. The latest 6.1 was upgraded the delphi's latest version which fixed most of window's problems with FL Studio.

Try a disk repair of the hard drive you have FL on.

Go to 'My Computer'
Right-click on the appropriate drive
Select 'Properties'
Select the 'Tools' page.
Select 'Check Now' beside 'Error-checking'
Tick the 'fix errors' box.
Let your system reboot if it wants to.

Ive had this fix several weird host/plugin instant-death type crash situations over the years.
