----So it's been 5-6 weeks now, can anyone who has bought this plug-in give us a few words/a short review about it ? It's obviously a very specific-use kind of plug-in, but I just wonder how often I'd use it, and wanted to maybe hear from some people who did buy it, if they use it much etc.

Haven't had much chance to make any new tracks here lately, but every time I've loaded Sonitex I've loved it; there's a very impressive suite of noise fx/eq/distortion that cater to a huge range of applications..It's definately a 'Go-To' effect.

How does everyone rate the CPU consumption? I tried the demo when it was released but it was quite beefy so I put it away for a bit. Even though I was absolutely dying for this plugin to come out I can't buy processor hogs right away. It will probably work great on my laptop though come to think of it(didnt have the laptop when this was released).

Hard for me to guage CPU useage atm; I have something in my system for awhile now causing aggressive CPU spikes I've been unable to isolate, but it's definately not Sonitex. I've got a pretty strong machine, so I didn't notice much with it loaded.

Hey - if you ever figure out that those spikes are, let me know. I've had something like that plague my machine for a couple years now, and I've never been able to fully supress it.

Alas, no:

Gigabyte P4 2.6ghz, 1G RAM (single-channel, that could be it right there!)

Sometimes I think it's a video or PCI Latency problem. But I've futzed with PCI config so much, I don't even know what I've done anymore. I'm just trying to coast until I can afford a new computer; and this one will be done right. No retail specials for me! PCAudiolabs or something audio-first.

A lot of effort has gone into optimizing the CPU efficiency of Sonitex, and especially making sure that bypassed stages and functions are not using CPU. So the CPU consumption very much depends on how much of the full arsenal you are using.

For instance.. on my system I can dial in a setting that uses the distortion stage (saturation), the Tone stage (filtering with the "general" subset), and all 3 channels of noise (the "general"-subset). This setting uses approx. 3.2 % on my P4 3.2 GHz (for comparison thats pretty much the same as Kjaerhus Audio's Classic Reverb default setting here).

When every single part of Sonitex is put to work it will of course use a considerable amount of CPU. But to be fair you should then compare it to using something like 2 compressors, 4 EQ's, 2 distortion fxs, a bunch of modulation units, noise generators, a couple of more filters and a whole lot of routing

Hello! Well I also understand that plugin developers need to make programs that take advantage of today's technology, rather than catoring to folks like myself who cling to their outdated gear and pretend it's all fine. I'm sure this runs ok on my laptop and if it doesn't it seems like an effect that can do well with some offline processing cause i'm not sure how much automation it needs(probably little for me).

Well, the demo works fine in EnergyXT, but Nuendo doesn't seem to be able to find it. Odd. BTW: doe the program remember what custom noise file you used when return to your project?

Just tested the demo out on my new laptop, 1.83 GHZ dual core, 2 gigs of ram and the CPU is manageable flipping through the presets

EDIT: Problem is I do all my mastering on the desktop

Yes I know but definitely something you can use heavily on the Master bus

I know you didn't ask for sound examples but I've been working on this little snippet which uses this plug pretty heavily. I think the plug sounds really good, although it can be a CPU killer on my humble little machine...
