Any vst's out there that have a cross-mod option for oscs?

Ninja and Rebel by !j Developement have excellent cross mod options, if you managed to grab them before the guy took them down forever. :( I think COFX has a free cross-modulation synth available in their Freeware thread.

I'm afraid I'm still a bit confused, sorry.
Sytrus has crazy osc modulation possibilities.

Synth1 allows osc2 to modulate osc1 I believe. Perhaps its just a nomenclature problem
..what goes around comes around..

Post

WNM-1 is basically that, oscs modulating oscs (routable too)

Any/all of the Vaz synths have osc cross-modulation.

Poly-Ana will, when she's done. Hopefully sometime soon (I'm done giving estimates... it'll be done when it's done. We will sell no whine before it's time. ;) )

Cheers!

What kind, old hardware style (very basic FM) or in the true meaning of the words? :)

My main issue with these kind of modulations is that as fun as they are, there's no way to make them alias free without restricting what kind of modulations (both amounts and routings) the user can do. Which sucks! Stupid digital audio! :)

Nah, it is still fun. The noises you get due to the digital limitations are fun too.

Can't tell you yet, but the aim is the "true" meaning of the word. I think... which word are we talking about again, "Modulation"? ;)

Anyhow... I've also got the effects of PWM on ANY of the waveshapes, as well as my WFM feature (Waveform Mod, morphing between the primary waveshapes) which also make the bandlimiting problem rather... um...

:help:

Heh, seriously though, it sounds pretty good already, in fact it's easy to forget when I'm playing it that there are still some aliasing issues to address... cuz as you point out, sometimes that just makes it sound FAT! But yes, this is the stuff I'm grappling with, as we speak. Wish me luck. :)

But I don't see the need to "limit" anything. If I can somewhat reduce the aliasing while under light modulation, that will be just fine. And if you crank the modulation so hard that you get aliasing and make some weird sounds, so what? So be it! Weird sounds are what we're TRYING to make! :D Lives aren't at stake. Not trying to land people on Mars here. So long as it's "close enough for rock & roll", I'll be happy. :hihi:

wait for it...

wait for it...

vaz modular

you can do cross modulation regardless of your definition- hell you can have 20 oscillators all modulating each other and themselves if you want

Post

But surely you can do that with any modular environment? Knocking something similar up by for instance modding the example synth in synthmaker is done in a jiffy! ;)

Post

Sytrus will do this for FM and RM

Post

yeah, fm, am, rm ...
but i guess he means something like in roland- synths called x-mod:
"Xmod (cross modulation) - oscillator frequencies (DCO1 and DCO2)modulate each other"
Roland, JX10 - synthmuseum.com

dunno, but i think many complex vst's like absynth, octo, or the unitool reaktor could get this done. even simplier, wilder or "better".

Post

I don't know what xmod is, but this is what soundonsound has to say about it:
XMOD is frequency modulation of DCO2 (now acting as the carrier) by DCO1 (the modulator).

Let's not forget about modulating the filter's CF from an oscillator.

IMHO, if the oscillator is at normal speed, it'll just be useless noise. And if it's at a lower speed, then it's an LFO - which most synths feature.
