Any vst's out there that have a cross-mod option for oscs?

Let's not forget about modulating the filter's CF from an oscillator.

IMHO, if the oscillator is at normal speed, it'll just be useless noise. And if it's at a lower speed, then it's an LFO - which most synths feature.
UM, try my SCAMP on a single note or power chord (i.e. play 5ths) with the Attack and Release times set to zero, the Cutoff mid-range, and the Resonance at about 60-75% and the Env Amount to around +25% (fiddle with it to find the sweet spot). (Turn off any LFO amount). That's straight X-Mod of the filter from your input.

(OH, actually you can use the free Naive LPF too if you want, as you don't need the LFO for this, but SCAMP offers a free 7 day evaluation so start with that, then get Naive if you're cheap. :P )

It's not useless noise, it's a WONDERFUL growling.

Gets even more interesting in a synth where one osc can modulate the filter and the other osc can run through it.

Just wait for Poly! :D

noise/growling, if you like it..

Btw, how do you achieve sample-per-sample filter modulation without it being a CPU sucker? I mean, you recompute your filter params for each sample?

Tony, I'm trying to teach you something here, you could try it before you write it off as "noise". It wouldn't have been a feature of some of the best classic synths (Oberheim, Prophet) if it wasn't musically useful. Jeeze, even the Pro-53 does it. (See the Poly-Mod section.)

YES, I recalc the filter coeffs for every sample. Part of why you'll see a slight CPU usage jump when the Env Level control is set anywhere but zero.

TRY IT! :P

And I'd rather be a CPU sucker than a.... oh forget it! :P

TRY IT!
I just did and it doesn't seem to work in FL at all (no sound).

Post

Tried it with what? SCAMP? Or Pro53?

No sound? What are you using for a source? (If SCAMP)

Post

Oh it needs a source, sry I thought it was a synth.

Ok, but it doesn't convince me at all (or it convinces me that it's noise), except that it's a CPU sucker (15% here).

Do you have a convincing demo piece of audio?
Or which of the Pro53 built-in presets use this?

Yeah, listen to the first note of Tom Sawyer, by Rush.

SCAMP is worth 15% :P (If all the channel bypass buttons are down, disable all but 1 + 2)

Ok that thing with the resonance. That would be a challenge to get this without filter modulation, I'll give a try on my side, I'm pretty sure it's possible.

As far as Pro53.. I dunno, I never use "presets".

Yeah, everyone hears the resonance in that sound and thinks that's all there is to it, but the filter is being X-modded too. Because it's being modded much faster than an LFO rate, in the sonic range (and in tune with the note that's being played), it doesn't sound like recognizable modulation. Unless you know what X-mod sounds like (liek that.)

Cheers! Sorry to pick on you but this is an IMPORTANT feature and can make some very organic and exciting sounds.

How's this? is this growling or is it something else?

No, that's LFO.

Try my patch, above.

It's says the FXP isn't for the plugin (scamp 1.1 demo) as if ID's didn't match

Post

Noooo..it's a Pro53 patch dude. :D

Try the "grungelizer" preset in SCAMP, and turn up the resonance (and twiddle the cuttoff and env amount to taste) :)

Ta!

Post

It doesn't load in my pro53 demo neither, anyway.

Is this it (the grungelizer preset)? Sounds like something we try to avoid when making FM presets.

Otherwise I don't know, plz post an audio demo.
