sampletank2 problem with effects

I'm unable to use automation on the effects and synth sampler in sampletank2. There's no problem automating the macro section dials but when the automation effects track appears the words in the track window say "global bypass" and nothing happens if i edit this line. Should the window be saying "channel X user X*"? like it does for the macro automation.

Assign a MIDI CCs to the parameters you want to automate, and use MIDI to automate them.

IK deliberately chose to only have VST automation for macros, volume, and pan (and mute too I think) because otherwise there would just be far too many parameters. Each part has about 50 synth parameters per keyboard zone, plus up to 37 effects parameters per part. At 16 parts, each plugin instance would easily reach over 1200 possible automation parameters.

I still never understood that though. Look at z3ta+ which has thousands of automatable parameters that you can just automate normally like any other vst plugin...

i'm using cubase SX.

A midi CC stands for "Continuous Controller". Basically when MIDI was first developed the synth manufacturers decided to make a list of controllers and assign numbers to them to create a standard that all synths could use. So for example, the Volume control is usually #7 on most synths and many other controls like Sustain usually adapt the same number all the time too(#64 for sustain).

In Sampletank1, the controls were fixed and you had to double click underneath the knob to see what controller number you needed to send over to it. In Sampletank2 you have the option to define the values on your own.

Hit the MIDI CTL button at the top of the Sampletank2 window, then click the knob you want to automate. A window will come up and you can see the knob you clicked on on a chart. Then drag up and down to decide which controller you want to automate it with. Read the manual for more details on this.

Next step is to chose whether your keyboard or cubase will do the real automation. If you have a controller it's easy to assign midi CC's to the physical knobs, if you have Cubase you can setup a Lane in the midi editing to automate and then you draw in envelopes. You'll have to read the manuals for your controller and cubase to decide which option you want to use.

ahh i was messing with this yesterday i knew it had something to do with it. ok so i've dragged up to controller NO.5 (the midi channel asigned to the instrument)

i don't have any hardware so i guess it's up to cubase to do the trick. ok i'm having trouble setting up a lane in the MIDI editing i've tried the channel 5 parameter and all it's users and searched the manual for help, no luck, the effect dial just won't move apart from the macros dials.

er so how do i setup a lane in the MIDI editing to automate? it's the last piece of the puzzle.

Have you read your manual? You'll have to learn how to use the Key Editor I think. I forget the exact term for the controller lane.
