All these modern clones does not come close,... definately not

I don't care if it's as good as high end Lexi's and TC's...it won't be...but is it better than vst verbs?? That it could be.

Yes i ordered one unit and i have it. Expect some examples soon. For now i will just say that i am impressed and i love it. But from what i can hear it is almost same as CSR. Not exactly same but you can get same results from CSR and vice versa.

I can confirm this, too.

I have some sound examples from CSR and I can get nearly the same reverb colour with the REV2496.
I did some comparisons, I can upload them, if you want.

With both tools you get top-notch reverb: very dense, not ringing, etc...
There are audible differences but its hard to say which is better. Thats a matter of taste.


I'm not quite sure, but CSR has a slightly other ER modeling....
I think it depends on which units they are modeled after.

I have to add CSR really is a outstanding VST reverb.
Maybe I'll go out and buy this soon, too.

To me CSR has little advantage in the Early Reflections and sounds a little bit more 3D,
while the Behringer REV2496 sounds a "little" bit more clean in the tail....

But with all these settings it's hard to say, what is an audible difference and what is just another parameter setup wrong...


CSR:
- more expensive
- need CPU
+ VST settings save with your project
+ easily bind in in every VST environment
+ multiple instances

REV2496:
+ very cheap
+ doesn't need any processing power
- need soundcard to bind in your VST environment
- no settings save with project -> will need midi connection with sysex data

At least both tools are a bargain for what they deliver.
And they come much closer to what they claim to sound like than any other VST plug-in (including convolution which sounds dull to my ears and has no 3d effect)

I see that it it has a compressor -- if that's anywhere near decent at all, I'm buying it tomorrow!

Just played around a little bit with the Compressor for you...
I have to add that I am not a compressor freak... but I would say this is a clean digital compressor, which does mean: it does not alter the sound...
It just does what it is supposed to do.
It raises the overall volume impression of a mix...

There are some special features to add high-pass or low-pass before the compressor which can make it behave a little other.

I've tried the compressor on some full mixes and some drum loops..

I would set it on par with the upper league compressor in VST area.
maybe its even better.
some VST compressors I have used in past did alter the sound quite strange in a bad way.


At least it's not a vintage compressor, that UAD-1 gives you.
it's more a compressor for mastering complete mixes, because of the uncoloured and neutral sound....
reminds me on the MPL-1 Mastering Precision Limiter from kjaerhus audio

Thanks for testing that out -- this sounds very promising. I was thinking of getting a hardware comp to help with tracking a very dynamic vocalist in an upcoming session...if it is very clean, then that is perfect for what I need...If I want coloration that will be much easier to add with VST's later...

Plus that the vocalist can also monitor with the nice reverb in the second channel with zero latency...Hmmm....looks like I'll be reaching for my credit card soon...

Jplanet, if you have an extra $150 or so and are looking to track a vocalist, I'd highly recomend the FMR Audio RNP. Best hardware compressor you can get for less than a grand and it costs almost a tenth of that. This isn't one of those "just take my word" things either do searches around rec.audio.pro, gearslutz, etc., and look at some of the highly respected engineers in those threads comments on it. There's got to be a dealer in Manhattan (Manny's Music, Sam Ash, and Dale's Pro Audio are listed as dealers on the website) that carries them in stock and will let you demo it.

Thanks, the RNC is definitely on my short-list. Nearly all of the hardware I am buying these days are just that -- things that people say over and over again sound like they cost many times their price...So far my C1 mic, VTB-1 preamp, this rev2496, Yamaha P60, and my old Yamaha AN1X all sit comfortably in this category...the FMR Audio stuff definitely belongs there, too...
