I use FL studio 6.

I automate everything.........delay feedback , reverb room size , predelay , cutoff , envelopes , you name it.......

If I do this , do I need midi or will i not get any extra benefit from it ?
To me , midi looks like just the same thing -- changing parameters by programming in the changes , so i guess im asking if drawing in filter curves , and general automation of everything is doing the same job ? 8)

Your question is a bit hard to decipher. Need a bit more info.

I'm not sure where 'midi' comes into this? The Event Editor (where you draw automation manually) or the Automation Curves in FL's playlist are purely internal to FL and don't really encounter MIDI as they are just automating parameters of internal and 3rd party plugins.

If by "filter curves" you mean the Automation Curves in the playlist and by "general automation" you mean the Event Editor windows, then I wouldn't worry about it at all. They both do the same thing. The curves have their uses (more precise control, can create 'ghost' clips), but I find them fiddly to use (compared to, say, eXT's envelope curves).

great -- you answered my question --- i dont need midi and its of no benefit to me.
Thanks !! =)

my first thought: "dudes, that's fruity logic"

midi is your "window" out of the fruity jungle.
lets you communicate with hardware (include controllers).
midi is an old standard and very common.
but yeah you dont need it. as long as you doing your stuff only inside fl.
(except [Midi out] as internal controler for sending notes to fx -> fl limitation)

I said that until I got a keyboard and yet I love animation in FL so much I only use it for playing te occasional solo.

Glad to know someone else loves parameter aniation as much as I do!

I hate Event Editor shit (unless done with a linked hard fader.. brings back horror of trying to automate sx params ahhhhh).. I dont think you should ever totally turn your back on MIDI cause you just never know where it'l come in handy in FL.. I use eXT within FL and I could not survive without midi.. TJMT :) Not to HJ your post wondering.. can I control those slicers via a MIDI out channel?? NO NOT THROUGH FL with FL or REWIRE just as I would a synth?? LEMMI know thx..

Well, I don't think we're talking about event editor so much as animation clips, hand-twiddled realt time, formula controller, etc.

I didn't notice when they implemented it, but you can make the animation clips operate under the audio clip/animation clip snap setting and then draw on the timeline instead of using the giant breakpoints.

I also only recently noticed that you can click the other button to the left of the clips to make the end breakpoint either stay put or slide along.
