Sounds like the new device/rack features will make KORE redundant for Live6 users.

I'm pretty addicted to the session view too, but the arrange view is a total dog. Hmmm... that's the conclusion I came to. So I just stayed with Logic, and now it's like second nature to me... I really am hardwired to Logic and have it set up exactly the way I want... command keys, screens, objects... It's autopilot for me

I really wanted to "love" Live... But I realized I was forcing myself to use the program. And it was easier (and faster) to do what I wanted in Logic... Now, if they would let me edit audio though...

I've been trying to use Logic more recently but I find myself really missing beat repeat and unlinked clip envelopes. Still trying to find a way to get similar results in Logic.

My biggest problem with Live, was the lack of command keys to change the "focus" of the sections of the interface... which is essential to do everything. Although I really liked Session view, it was annoying as hell to be editing midi, then have to select the clip area, then select the midi area etc. etc. For the command keys to work... the focus has to be in the right area! seemd to me they should have made a universal set of keys (like cmnd.tab) that would jump from the midi area, to instrument, to clip view etc. Rather than just Session to Arrange... which I never used anyway! Too much "touch the screen to make stuff happen"... In Logic, I hit a few cmnd. keys, and I'm navigating all over the place, calling up editing screens, zooming for automation adjustments, adjusting the zoom level, etc.etc. Just faster! I hate having to "mouse activate" the screen all the time... In Logic I use the keyboard to navigate through the song all the time... one bar, to the end, etc. Live never seemd to have this navigational adaptability... it was always, mouse, grab, drag, select...

Drove me nuts! But I did like "jamming" in clip view... Just never could figure out where to go... later with it!

Totally. There's also not much visual indication of where the "focus" is so I wind up changing the quantize values of the wrong thing. Definitely one of the big rough spots of the UI.

Hey kovacs & pdxindy!

I get where your coming from here - I have Kore on the way (couldnt resist the bundle offer even if I am VERY in the red for it

) so I guess I have to stop somewhere...

Sounds like Live6 & Kore will do many of the same things so for me thats another strike against Live6 - LOVE the workflow / finding myself going more and more to Live 5 after booting / Warp markers are a godsend / feels like a tape machine when multitracking guitar - vocals...

BUT - Personally I find the midi horrible to work with, it kills my buzz / Kore will take Kare of any 'multi's' I need / dont NEED video ATM / BUT the major thing being... Live 5 works well for me and my needs!

Perhaps I'll wait and see what the upgrade path from 5 -> 7 is

If some software is doing it for you, no need to get caught up in the buzz. I've only upgraded Photoshop 3 times since version3. Same with other software too.

With Live, v6 is a no-brainer for me cause of the dual processor support. Initial benchmarks posted by users on the Ableton forum show impressive results for an alpha version. That right there is worth the upgrade since I have a DPG5. Also I do a lot of video so the video track is a solid +. The new universal devices and racks are a big draw.

A bonus is the ability play a freeform track and then warp the tempo to it. There are other things I would like of course, but this upgrade hits it for me. Obviously others feel differently. It is always that way.

Live has become my #1 tool so I don't see myself switching hosts, and I am most definitely getting the upgrade when it comes. But the sampler is not for me...already got Kontakt 2 and still need to learn it.

When you get the 37sl really inspect the keys closely at the music store (if you buy at one) it might save you a trip back.

I have bought 2 novation midi controllers this year, a 25 le and 37sl and I took them both back because of key problems.
One of the key weights from the 25le was loose in the box.
The 37sl keys got so loose in one week that I could hear them over my monitors or headphones, one even started making a metallic ring when I pushed it and turned loose.

The rest of the 37sl was sweet, it's a beautiful controller.
I ended up going with a Axiom 49, it's very solid IMO.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll make sure I check!

I ended up going with a Axiom 49, it's very solid IMO.

That's my #2 choice so it may go that way instead.

Yeah, it's excessive. If it included the Sampler it would be okay I guess, but I think they are really pushing users patience with this pricing strategy...

ALSO, the new Sampler requires Live 6 installed, so even Live 5 owners can't use it without paying the full $418 to upgrade and get the sampler. SO this sampler instrument is not just only for Live users - it's only for Live 6 upgraders

There's talk that there will be a bundle announced nearer the time, and a jolly well hope it's a good one because at present this comes in at around THREE TIMES what I was expecting/planning to spend on the Ableton upgrade this autumn

It sounds to me like the essential intruments that comes with the boxed version would overlap with my Kontakt2 library anyway.
This will be the first time since 1.0 that I don't buy the boxed version..I feel kinda sad.

Somebody wanting to get Live6 with operator and sampler better have a thick wallet and be ready to dish out $950.00US. I already own a license for Live5 and will be buying operator and the new sampler and of course I'll go the download way to save a few bucks. That's still $570.00 for my upgrade. I'm not a pro just a hobbyist, I love Live and spend many hours buried in its great interface. So f**k it I'll starve for a couple of weeks.
