Am I reading it wrong, or are existing Live 5 users getting a rather worse upgrade deal than the new customers?

Well no I'm not fat, but I like eating good food. I figure if I cut back on food, hydro, gas and ease back a bit on the wine, I'll be able to make the purchase much smoother.

Yep, worked it out.

Live Lite to Live 5.2 download upgrade was EUR249
Live 5.2 to Live 6 download will be +EUR99

Live Lite to Live 6 download upgrade is EUR249

Well that's a great way of saying 'thanks' to all the users who've put money in your bank account before last week, isn't it?

Apart from the pathetic piano roll editor, lack of automation curves, and well, quite a few other things actually, the one thing that bugged me about Live was the meters. While the first two points have apparently been ignored for another revision, it looks like they've finally got something right:

for download, it is $470 not $570... still a lot

Ableton did say they would be offering some bundles which would save something

you said you would go the download way to save a few bucks. since the EIC is not available for download, I figured you would not be getting it.

If I get Sampler, I will not be getting the 'essential' instruments.

It sounds like you get allot of good sounds for sampler if you go the boxed way, it's only $100.00 more.

I would do it if I wasn't a salesperson for Live... just kidding..

But so far as I can tell, Sampler itself does not ship with any sample content at all, right?

(Another of the reasons that it hardly competes in terms of value for money with alternative products currently on the market...)

I'm looking forward to the upgrade, but I'm not buying the sample set or the sampler. I dunno, I just can't justify spending that much again. Maybe I'm getting old?

I hear ya. I seldom ever use any of the live effects or instruments.. I like them, I'm just used to all my great 3rd party gear. All of the effects I get with Reaktor5 not to mention the synths pretty much makes other gear un-needed.

That's what it really comes down to. After you've been making music for awhile you have a certain selection of apps you have learned inside and out. Ableton Live is one of those apps for me. Once you've reached that point otehr stuff can just get in your way musically.

I believe that is correct... no sample content unless you purchase the EIC (boxed version)

I do think it is too early to tell if Sampler competes since we cannot try it and it is only in alpha.

One way it more than competes. With Kontakt, if I record some audio, I have to save that audio to disk and then import into Kontakt. With Sampler, you will be able to drag the clip right in. With flatten, it will be easy to resample too. This is a huge draw for me!

If I get Sampler I will not get the EIC library. I will get Sampler if it turns out it is a great sampling/mangling/performance beast. Kontakt is not ideal in that regard
