cheap hardware reverbs vs software

The price of CSR, and the indignity and vulnerablity of yet another fkng dongle makes them look fkng greedy compared to Behringer. Marketing a hardware box is much, much more expensive than marketing some software. I would glady purchase CSR at full price, if it didn't have a dongle.

Seems like the dongle issue finds it's way into just about every thread around here.
What I'm really interested in though, is how the quality of the sub $500 hardware verbs compares to the software verbs in the same ballpark. Anyone?

OK - now I understand your bitterness. You are a developer, trying to make money from musicians (who generally don't have any money). I can feel your pain.nuffink wrote:If I had the chance to relaunch Playa I'd charge £1000.00 a piece and utilise the hardest synchrosoft protection going. I'd advise any developer of any plugin to do the same.
You'll make more money fleecing a few idiots than you ever will trying to play straight with the teeming mass of thieves.
But screwing over your loyal customers never works. Never ever.
That's why people like myself have had a gutsful of greedy software developers, and only support the cool guys who charge reasonable prices and use registration key protection only.
Don't look at the teeming mass of thieves. You were never going to get any money from them, ever.
If Behringer can ship a hardware box to market, and make money for all parties involved, I take my hat off to them.

Trust me - hardware rules. On sound quality first, and evidently on price too.kuniklo wrote:Seems like the dongle issue finds it's way into just about every thread around here.

I really, really wish this wasn't true. And maybe in a year or two plugin reverb will equal or excel hardware. But right now, hardware rules.

Hardware rules. It's always better. That little zoom unit that you thought sounded so shit? Nah. Way better than a Waves convolution reverb. It's hardware.Kiwburger wrote:Trust me - hardware rules. Edit - not worth arguing with bitter people.
I'm not saying All hardware is better than All software at All prices. Just that if you are looking for quality reverb, at this point in time, hardware is better. IMO. I put my money where my mouth is.

Because there's a hierarchy. And it has golden eared mavens comparing reverbs to a nominal uber-reverb in their heads to maintain it.

uummm, lets consider one thing...
vst reverbs are much more easily integrated, and you can use as many instances as your cpu can handle. The ease of flexibility and usability far exceeds that of hardware verbs.

Sure, although I've yet to use more than two reverbs in a track and the cpu hit of the better ones is pretty brutal.Jason Brian Merrill wrote: vst reverbs are much more easily integrated, and you can use as many instances as your cpu can handle. Otherwise it's nice to see it's still pretty much impossible to have a conversation of substance here on kvr.

You havin a bad day nuffink?
You gotta remember that most of the people who see/demo your plugin are probably people from KvR, and if they're anything like me, haven't an awful lot of money to throw around.
Having said that though, if I didn't already have a fairly decent understanding of chords and harmony, I'd find chordspace well worth saving my pennies for.

It's not about ChordSpace. I couldn't scratch a living out of what I sell, nor did I ever expect to. That goes for most of the small devs that post day to day at kvr. Even the larger outfits aren't rolling in it. Anybody with the ability to write a half decent plug could make more dosh doing almost anything else in I.T.advaya wrote:You havin a bad day nuffink?![]()

So it kind of rankles a bit when idiots start slinging around words like greedy.

Truce? There's too much testosterone around here.
All I want is a great sounding reverb, and i've been trying a lot of software and come back around to buying hardware (again).
Like I said - I really, really wish I could get the best reverb out of a plugin (for reasons of convenience). But when I see a hardware box that cost half of what some software, i have to ask myself who is being greedy. Behringer get bashed all the time - I've done it myself. I'm just saying the tables have turned.
