edit: how about yet-another-track-header-button? A little eye for 'visibility' button.* When a track has visibility on, its visual content shows up as the background (semitransparent overlay?) of any other track you edit. Seems dead simple to me, especially with a button/key shortcut to turn off all overlays.**
Now I understand what the concept was behind this ! I didn't think of this way, sounds actually quite easy to establish and enough to make this feature happen. It won't work for "normal" track display (i.e. non-in-track) though, so that's the (maybe only) compromise :)
Do you mean it wouldn't work for the pop up editors? I don't see why they couldn't get the exact same functionality ("visible" track data as an overlay on top of the editor)

The other reason I like this is the seperation in functionality from editing multiple MIDI parts in one editor. So if you want to use some MIDI as a visual guide without accidentally editing it, you're set.

No, no ,no. I meant the track state when it is not in in-track mode, i.e. normal mode (not minimized either) ;)
But even if so I can now imagine of how it can work :tu: (if one adapts the idea with these extra buttons, e.g. only the selected track gets the overlays attached)

Post

good stuff-- i personally would like the idea of having one generic track with visual overlays as an option you could turn on and off. whether this is the most pratical solution or not is beyond my feeble scope of programming ;)....but at least in my eyes it seems that type of track functionality versus a track FOR the functionality......would be the least obtrusive for those who need not bother with these types of editing situations

I see what you mean now plastique. If I'm editing something though it's always in-track edit mode (or occasionally the popup editors) but I can see why you might want this e.g. - when cutting up some audio parts on the timeline.

Post

yeah, all the common quick editing tasks which you wouldn't use the detailed editing mode for, with audio, midi and envelope tracks (maybe markers as well to some degree)), e.g. also the shift-stretch operation or simply arranging smaller parts can nicely benefit just to name a few ...
The only editing mode where it wouldn't make any sense would be if tracks are minimized (or special track types like the folder track).

Post

here's a [possibly too] funky idea:

A 'fader' of sorts on the visibility of the overlay. Say alt + mousewheel turns the overlay alpha up and down, and alt + middle click sets it back to zero. This key combo could be available in any editing area and in the sequencers it would function on whatever track the mouse is over.

I'm all for extra track types as long as none are lost,

if i can set my track to be just audio or just midi then its all good :)

& no doubt i would defenetly make use of the extra suggestions of track type thats in this thread :)

your post earlier in this thread made it look like the editors can work on multiple clips as well?? :?:

Can you do that with two (or even several) MIDI tracks ?

Looks bloody nice if you ask me
And I spotted that the timeline cursor now goes over the complete area (not the timeline itself though, or is that something else in the picture ?) :tu:

Don't mean to be a bitch, but what so great about being able to overlay midi notes on audio data on the same track ?
Maybe i'm just a fool not seing the big picture, but it doesn't look like a feature i'd use...

Overlay midi tracks though.....
