Sure, although I've yet to use more than two reverbs in a track and the cpu hit of the better ones is pretty brutal.

Otherwise it's nice to see it's still pretty much impossible to have a conversation of substance here on kvr.
ummm... did something i say trigger that remark?

anyway, theres always freeze or rendering... even so, its still much easier than leaving the "box" and coming back into it.

Just commenting on the fact that we made it to dongles, copy protection, greed and personal insults by page two. Not all audio forums are like this, really.

For most effects I agree with you but reverb is a bit of an exception. You can't usually freeze it because it's on a send. It doesn't need fine-tuning until the end of the mix so saving exact state is less of an issue, decent reverb plugs are HUGE cpu hogs, and they're quite expensive relative to other plugin effects. All of this makes hardware a little more attractive than it is for eq and compression, for example.

Post

samplitude freezes sends quite nicely.

i guess that is why i said that.

that also said, marquis compressor by voxengo, take ALOT of cpu as well.... so decent compressors and eqs can as well.

but yea, reverb is definetly the king of CPU hogs, but not really by far.

i see your point, but i think its a bit exaggerated, no offense.

How can you freeze a send? Does it automatically unfreeze it if you adjust the send levels of another track?

They don't have to be. Princeton's Stereo Room barely makes a dent in the CPU, for instance. Same applies to xhip reverb, which is an early beta and only chips away 3% CPU on my P4 3GHz.

Princeton is definitely an exception. Sounds great and pretty light on CPU.

so its very nice to hear other people that do like the Behringer V-Verb very much..

When I first posted about the unit, nobody believed me....
http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=141360

nice to find some confirmation....

And its true the V-Verb really has some nice paramters that all do make sense, even set to min or to max postition....

Just very usable...

It nearly beats every plug when it comes to price/power ratio.

I only like two reverb plugs that deliver professional sound quality in my opinion , the one is CSR and the other is the Anwida Spazio plug, which sounds very good but is not as tweakable as the Behringer or the CSR...

well, me chiming in here ...
some of you will kick my arse because i'm again raving so hard about the artsacoustic reverb, i know, but:
i've had the behringer v-verb ... sorry, but there's no way that it can compete with the artsacoustic reverb (don't get me wrong, there are definateley some h/w reverbs that can knock out the artsacoustic reverb, but they're _all_ in another way ahead priceleague).
the behringer's modulation _only_ modulates the tail, which leads in the fact that the tail sounds completeley seperate from the er's.
those i'd wish to be modulated too, as, if you put any static signal ito it (i.e. a fm'ed saw or such) there will be allways metallic resonances added to the dry signal, wich you are not able to avoid ... also i found that the v-verb in general sounded very metallic and harsh, no matter how hard you modulate the tail.
another thing is, that the modulation seemed very audible to me very fast (even in small ammounts), that in an unpleasant way. also, after i finally managed to get some sort of signal where i thought "ok, not so bad now" i noticed that under these circumstances v-verb allowed the reverb time not to go under 2 sec ... the nested allpass-structures only allow this when you know how to program them, which behringer obviously didn't care too much about.
all these "misbehaviours" are not there in the artsacoustic reverb (some in any other vst reverb, but there are even some freeverbs that sound better imo), allthough i must admit that the v-verb is not too bad considering the price and the fact that it's solid hardware (wich you _have_ to pay) ...
i also tried the other reverb algo's in it, but they just couldn't even reach the quality of the modulated algo, wich surprisingly is just an addon to the actual v-verb algo's. all in all there's not too much reverb hardware units i would want exept 1. l480 with classic card,2. l224, 3. l960 (for classical aproaches)or 4. a roland sv880 ... thatone you get very rare, the otherones ... well ... you know what i mean ...
to summ it up:
for algo-verbs to me there's nothing better than the artsacoustic reverb, for the tasks where i need a very realistic, "nonaudible" room added i use convolution (used in these task they're great on cpu) ...
i never liked the princeton ... sounds allways like a flattering big bathroom to me ... i just didn't find any use where the 2 other's mentioned wouldn't beat it ... though the combi of the artsacoustic reverb and the complementing small/short convo-rooms in general beats most of the vst-reverbs ...
but maybe that's just me/a matter of taste ... 8)

If I had the space, the money and a multi-out soundcard and a mixer with a fair few sends and a patchbay I'd probably use the following FX units myself.

1.Behringer V-Verb
2.TC Electronics TC300
3.Ensoniq DP4 (purchased secondhand)
4.Two Boss SE50's (purchased second hand)

Would be a pretty well rounded bunch IMHO for verbs / delays / multifx and the like with pretty good sound overall IMHO.
There'd be alot of grunt in that lot.

ok, thatone i forgot, we had that in a studio i worked in a long time ago ... but you _need_ the studio chip inside, otherwise it's not providing even half the quality ... but with it, yes, it is an awesome pice of reverb ...

I don't get it. I download the V-Verb MP3 files from that other post, and added the ArtsAcoustic Reverber. I tweak it out and used the original MP3 file that has that FM sound. On the end, I got the same resulting Reverber sound. Afterall, I think that it sounds very good. But hey, it could be me. :hihi:

Someone has yet to provive a good sounding smaller room example from either the V-Verb or the Artsacoustic reverb. Besides, it is much more important how a reverb sounds in the mix rather than on a single track.

if yopu all talk of greedy developers, dont forget the following

behringer produces in china right? it may well be that the emplyes get 0.50$ a day plus 50 whippings, and has not to pay that much taxes (wich may be bad or goog, depens on how taxes used)

if you are a developer in canada for example your life is much more expensive, yna dyou have to pay a whole lot more, so you need to charge a whole lot more.

of course there are many very black cheeps, who charege a lot, but produce also in china ore other cheap countrys. those bad brands where you pay for the name only, the often the favouirite brands of your children

see, prices have too many bloody couses today.

think of it.

D3CK

P.S. I for myself decided to stop buying cheap stuff, i dont have much, but i just care for my stuff so ot lasts longer and just buy stuff with no blood on it(aka , NOT made by children who almost die from their working conditions).

Brok,

Can you recommend a particular set of room convolution samples?
