EnergyXT. Better routing, operates as either a host or a sub-host (instrument or effect), regular upgrades. In addition to "just" wrapping instruments, it also provides chorders, sampler, arpeggiators, step sequencers, and can serve as a full sequencer by itself. I know of people that've used EnergyXT to make newer VSTI "behave" in quirky hosts like Logic 5.51PC, DirectIXer and Cakewalk VST adapter, as well.

Chainer has the 'save as soundfont' feature, but it appears that development has pretty-much stopped.

Don't know about V-Stack, but I doubt it's as flexible as EXT.

Phrazor is great but also try the new Acon Digital Media chainer now in beta. It's free and supposedly going to stay that way after release.
