First experience ever with a tracker: Octamed on an Amiga.

A bit later I started using Modedit on a 8086 PC. Later I was introduced to FT2. I *loved* FT2, but moved on since. For me the tracker paradigm simply doesn't cut it anymore - even though thinking back about the FT2 times brings back good memories.

I use Psycle -- it's pretty stable and the native plug-ins aren't bad. Buzz seems to have an unbelievable number of cool machines, but the interface is just a little too clutzy for me. It's a shame you can't use Buzz machines in another application. (Does FL do it, though?) Modplug is good for sample work.

By the way, I saw brambos posting above -- I'll plug Tunafish. It's a fun program, though not a tracker.

I keep thinking I'll get Renoise or Aodix one of these days.

Another vote for Renoise, although I haven't tried all the others. It does things I didn't even dream of back in the days of Scream Tracker and IT2. It's also set to change a lot and get some massive new features in the coming updates.

Renoise. "Apply FX to sample" and "Render selection to sample slot" make it incredibly powerful for sample manipulation.

reViSiT, because it's being developed fastest (well faster than MadTracker anyways), works as a VST plugin, and can be used as a midi tracker in a VST environment.

If I wanted a tracker as a main host, I'd probably get a Renoise license though - Mainly because I used FT2 back in the day, so it's more familiar.

Yes, it does

. It is the ONLY other application (aside from the clones) that can read buzz machines and effects. The buzz developer licensed FL to the use of the buzzcode. Buzzdude has since disappeared and FL remains the single host for running buzzerz reliably.

I should also note that IT2 is the fastest tracker to use, once you learn how to use it (hah! get it?!). It's all keyboard-based, so if you have good hand-eye coordination, you too can become the ultimate tracking geek!!

(funny how this one wasn't named "FastTracker". hmm...)
