MacIntel support for future Cubase, Nuendo and Virtual Instruments versions

With MacIntel technology gradually finding wider use, we're pleased to announce that the next versions of Cubase and Nuendo, version 4, will be fully compatible with MacIntel computers. However, we do not plan to update the current version 3 ranges of our Cubase and Nuendo products for MacIntel compatibility. This is because we would like to focus our development resources on the new Cubase and Nuendo version 4 ranges, to make sure that they are released with the highest possible product quality.

We are also proud to announce that our first MacIntel-compatible VST instrument version, Groove Agent 3, will be shipping in September 2006. New VSTi products launched in the future will also feature MacIntel compatibility. We are developing approaches to adapting our older and existing VST instrument product versions for MacIntel, and will publish more information about this at a later point in time on our website and in the respective support forums.

hmmm, nice.. so anyone that wants to upgrade to a mactel system NEEDS to upgrade to version 4.

Well, if you look at the number of posts at the cubase forum, you will see that a vast majority uses cubase on a windows system. I don't see, why they should invest their time to port an almost old version to the new intel platform.
Neither Adobe realeased an intel-mac version of their photoshop range, which is a very popular program on mac-systems.

I've actually got the inside scoop on how the new cubase/nuendo generation is being developed (little birdie told me, ie. beta tester friend), and all I can say is it'll be worth the wait and the upgrade hassles. This is the biggest update in years and I hear they actually revised the beta testing program just for this, to eradicate their bug reputation. Seems like they want to gain some trust since nuendo is gaining more and more market share from protools.

and some of those major new features... holy f**k it's going to be awesome! Automation will possibly be the best available anywhere, with complete euphonix integration apparently, the whole thing designed by those guys.

(I'm a total SX4 fanboy ever since I first heard what's going to be included. Not that there's much wrong with SX3 for me either.)

Remember that fake SX4 paper that got "leaked" by some idiot fantasist? It won't be like that at all.

Is MacIntel a system every Mac user has to change to sooner or later, or just an alternative hardware system to the usual Mac hardware ? Excuse the uninformedness (been a Windows user forever) ...

Eventually it'll all be MacIntel, yes. It'll take years of course, and all mac developers are smack in the middle of second massive codebase transition since OSX was released. bleh.

old mac power pcs will be out of date. EVentually, if you want a mac, it will have to be a mactel.

strange, because you see a lot of companies here offering free upgrades with the new UB format, or for mac intel...

perhaps it is just too hard with all of that integrated Dongle code....

Ah ok, cheers for the infos

So apparently if you now change to MacIntel as a user you will be kind of in a sort of "early adopter role".
I can also see the massive amount of work which needs to go into changing the software code (the more it was platform optimized, the more needs to be changed, if not built from new if too many differences).

Does this mean that the timestretching will finally work properly?

I've never had a problem with time stretch, but I don't have SX3.

Anyway do you think it will be possible to upgrade from sx1 to sx4?

I may hold out on upgrading to sx3, if 4 is coming out in the next 6-9 months.

Seems to be, that Cubase SX 4 is in development....
