Nice. I definitely dig that you already have time signature + tempo change support, and five and seven note tuplets. Bugs me to no end when hosts don't have one or all of these. I've only been messing around with this for a bit, and it looks cool... really cool, actually. Wish there were a way to make it ReWire compatible, but there'd be licensing problems with that, I suspect. Failing that, the VST idea is good too.
I'd recommend adding some shortcuts to change what type of tool we're using for the left click. Unless there are already some, and I just haven't discovered them yet.
edit: Huh, just checked up on the ReWire licensing thing, and actually Propellerheads gives out free licenses to any companies that request them, apparently (see http://www.propellerheads.se/technologi ... &nc=361605). They say that they only grant licenses to proper companies, however, not individuals. Don't know if that changes things for you.

Actually, something nice, light, stable, simple and stand-alone, for composing sequences, sounds pretty ideal. It would be nice if it used midi plugins and offered "controller free" sequencing methods as well: step sequencing and generational, random, etc functions. Something you could cart about on a old underpowered laptop or a personal computer to build compositions with. It might be nice if it offered the option to use the computer's keyboard as a controller or offered alternate methods of recording things like vocals and ambient sounds and so on to midi sequences with some way of altering the way the machine interprets the sounds... that way you could sing a melody into your microphone or pound it out on the table in front of the machine with your fingers... record a passing train to drumloops, etc, etc, etc... If you could set it up to record styles of midi so that you could sing to something specifically designed to run cantor or some sort of vocal synth that might be pretty beneficial as well. Rewire support sounds nice but I'd rather just write the composition to midi and use something like Sonar to tweak things and flesh them out. {I just downloaded the thing and skimmed the online text... I don't know exactly what functions it has yet.}blurk wrote:Do you have any plans to make Sequitur a VST plugin as well as a host, kind of like Sonicbytes' ERA and Phrazor? In these days of modular environments, a sequencer plugin is very useful. I know I'm still interested in trying alternative sequencer plugins to use in Plogue Bidule.

Yes, it looks nice : fancy GUI, original concept, and one great point : since early development days, some templates to make it work at his best with hardware !
It looks clear and easy to take in hand (couldn't try it yet) ;
DO you plan to make any PDF manual with screenshots and a possibility to suscribe to a newsletter to stay informed about new vesrions ?
The idea to have a vst/vsti version, in order to wrap it in any other host is sweet too, but what is that EchoSystem mentionned above ?

I had to skip the audio stuff as it was crashing for me too, just played with MIDI so far.

No, all non SE synths i tried worked fine (wusikstation, kjaerhus spectra, oatmeal and others, and that was both inserting them as new tracks and swapping them out with SE ones that i'd already loaded. I'd load an SE, no sound, then i'd replace it with a non SE, sound, then swap back to an SE, no sound again, no activity at all, and just to add a little more info, if i had both SE and non SE synths loaded on seperate tracks, the non SE would produce sound, but once again, nothing from the SE ones). Btw, Rez 2.0 sticks in most hosts, especially when playing a sequence from the beginning, so that is not specific to your host.exh wrote:As far as complete silence, I'm not clear if it's just these that are silent or if these were all the ones you tried and so VST is silent...

Installed. I can get it to work as long as I don't have it scan my VST folder, that's a crash (tried 3 times). Will keep working with it. In the meantime, the smallest/simplest midi VSTi sequencer I know is PQNAudio's VSTSeq, http://pquenin.free.fr/pqnaudio/vstseq/index.html

Hadn't thought about it, that's a very good idea but probably not on the list in the near-term -- clearly there are a lot of compatibility issues with VSTs to work through. For now I'll concentrate on getting what it's supposed to do stable before adding more complexity to the system.blurk wrote:Do you have any plans to make Sequitur a VST plugin as well as a host, kind of like Sonicbytes' ERA and Phrazor?

Holding down CTRL lets you map a different set of tools to the buttons. It comes with a default mapping, I'm not sure but I think it puts eraser on the left button and box select on the middle.icelizarrd wrote:I'd recommend adding some shortcuts to change what type of tool we're using for the left click. Thanks for the info, I was interested in rewire support awhile ago but I'm apparently not in a position to get a license so I've ignored it.icelizarrd wrote:Huh, just checked up on the ReWire licensing thing, and actually Propellerheads gives out free licenses to any companies that request them, apparently (see http://www.propellerheads.se/technologi ... &nc=361605). We'll get full documentation over time although we just have plans for html, no plans for PDF right now.sinkmusic wrote:DO you plan to make any PDF manual with screenshots and a possibility to suscribe to a newsletter to stay informed about new vesrions ?
For information, there's currently a public wiki we can use to provide info on although there's no format for it yet
http://www.angryredplanet.com/wiki/inde ... =Main_Page
We'll also set up either a mailing list or a webforum, there's been a minor amount of debate on that point. If you have an opinion feel free to let us know.
It's a tool, just like Pencil is a tool for creating events. The tool model is very flexible, there's a full pipelining system behind each tool. In the case of echosystem, it's an echo node with some parameters set up. So echosystem acts like a pencil, but instead of creating a single event it creates a series of them, from the click point to the current mouse position. Then it has a variety of parameters you can map to knobs on your MIDI controller so you can control various properties to affect the velocities of the notes created as you're dragging it around. It's a little introduction to what we have planned for MIDI editing.sinkmusic wrote:what is that EchoSystem mentionned above ?

Thanks for the report -- if you tried it only once you might try it again. There is an occasional hang on start I've seen on 2 computers now, and in both cases it's rare enough that it's not a serious issue, but I don't know what's going on. It might be related to the state one of your MIDI drivers is in, which we've seen bad behaviour from, but honestly no clue right now.loveless wrote:Hung on start up, didn't get an error - it just stayed in task manager. I'm interested to try it out, so I'll give it another go later on.
And if you're getting a consistent hang and are willing to help me try and track it down I'd much appreciate that -- if that's the case feel free to contact me at hackborn at angryredplanet.com.
