Hey didn't this sequencer start on Beos? Any plans of continuing development on the Beos version with Zeta and openbeos moving along?

No idea but it's had it as long as I can remember and is one of the few VST plugins that can host Rewire which is useful :)

Yeah that's right. Man I loved beos. No, no continued plans for development, while we started with a beos API things have diverged and it would be more work than we have time for to go back. I released the source to several people years ago but the state of the source was somewhat of a question mark, since the state of beos was such a question mark for so long. As far as I know nothing was ever done with it and I suspect they were polite in their handling and didn't publically release it or I'd think I would have heard something.

If I ported to anything at this point it would be OSX. I had a machine for awhile and was pretty impressed, but again, just doing one platform is almost too much work right now, so there are no plans.

A quick note to say I uploaded a new beta that hopefully will help bypass the crashing VSTs -- download here and release notes here.

YAY! Sequitur LIVES! i thought that the death of BeOS would be the death of Sequitur's "presence" in the computer music world, but here you are! Congratulations!!!

For anyone who never used it, Sequitur was one of the first and only electronic music content creation tools ever available on BeOS. It was professional, intuitive, clever and had features that hadn't been seen since the Atari ST sequencers of old. Eric Hackborn is very interactive with his customers/users and is, in my opinion, brilliant. Seeing this great product "back in the world" makes me SMILE!!

It's a tool, just like Pencil is a tool for creating events. The tool model is very flexible, there's a full pipelining system behind each tool. In the case of echosystem, it's an echo node with some parameters set up. So echosystem acts like a pencil, but instead of creating a single event it creates a series of them, from the click point to the current mouse position. Then it has a variety of parameters you can map to knobs on your MIDI controller so you can control various properties to affect the velocities of the notes created as you're dragging it around. It's a little introduction to what we have planned for MIDI editing.
Thank you for your reply.
I haven't had time yet to try it, but your approach looks very interesting.

As i own already many different audio/midi sequencers, this is true i'm mostly interested in a "basic/classic" midi seq, but more interested in hosts wrappable in other hosts (Ext, Phrazor, etc), and/or hosts with unique proprietary features, like Echosystem seem to be.
I'm also very interested in the fact you want to gather a lot software and hardware (with templates for different synths, and the will to make the software work well with controlelrs since the early beta).

Congratulations (at least for the concept, since i haven't tried it yet).

Hi! I'm Dianne, a developer helping Eric with Sequitur.

MIDI clock events are not turned on by default. To enable them, click on the MIDI output device you want to have send clock events. On the left panel will be settings for the device, one of which is a checkbox to control whether clock events are sent. If it is checked, they should be going out.

I hope this helps! If it still doesn't work, please let us know!

I'm sorry if that's a stupid question but how do I set the vst-folder? (without digging for the .ini and either deleting it or editing it manually) - the 'preferences' do not seem to have an option for it... :?

that brings me to a request b.t.w.:

it would be nice if the .ini would be created in the same folder where the .exe resides... :)

hi
just wanted to say that i think this is a really excellent effort. some very nice concepts in functionality and GUI :D
I will be keeping a close eye on this for sure.
cheers, and good work.

I'm a bit confused; is this going to be a free sequencer? Or is it going to be released with a pricetag when it comes out of beta?

too bad :(

we sure could use an innovative midi sequencer... there is just nothing on OSX

but nice to see your efforts and wish I could try it, maybe someone will be inspired and do something creative and innovative for OSX! :)

It's actually in the preferences, but hard to see. If you go to the audio tag, the big list view there is all of the VST paths. Press the "+" button at the bottom to add a new path.

The preferences UI is definitely worth an apology. :? It is one of the things that got slipped out of this first beta -- a future version will have a much improved UI there.

We actually deliberately decided not to store preferences in the same folder as the .exe! :) This is both to be a good application (the location the app is installed at may not be writable), and to make it easier to update since you can completely replace the previous version that was installed.

All of the preferences are currently stored in your user's Local Settings -- that is, Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Angry Red Planet\Sequitur

Looking at this, it is unfortunate that it is so hard to get to this location with the Windows UI. They could possibly be stored in My Documents, but I tend to think it isn't nice for applications to just throw random stuff there...

Reverse Engineer wrote:For the quick run i had, it's pretty good, doesn't work with any Synthedit synths (it will load them, but they're silent)....
Just a thought here re SE synths: Some SE synths will only work on one MIDI channel - usually channel 1.

Could that be the issue here..? I don't know and I can't try it out unfortunately (Macland here :( ), just trying to help by throwing ideas in.

Anyway, I hope that gets sorted cos there's some great SE synths these days. Looking forward to getting back to PC ville too and trying this out... :)
