We all know that cubase has had the freeze function for quite some time and once i tried to use this beast but it exports audio into 32 bit files!
bastard, becuase when im working in 16 bit, my audio card hate 32 bit files and wont play more than 5 without the cards ram or whatever (did know the reason) dies..
does anyone know how to set the bit depth ect for freeze files or know of third party stuff that changes it
Peace

Frozen files are supposed to be used solely by the host. Maybe you're better off by putting the track on solo and export or render it. There you should be able to select the bit depth.
You can change the bit depth of existing files with a good audio editor. Adobe Audition, Audacity and the likes, use the "save as" dialogue.
Probably it's not the audio card that can't cope, but the program you use to play the files. Most older software can't cope with anything exceeding a bit depth of 16.

No, the ESI ESP1010 is not limited to 16bits at all.
Why assume that??

well, i just wouldnt see why he would work in 16 bit thats all.BertKoor wrote:No, the ESI ESP1010 is not limited to 16bits at all.

i work in 16 bits for a few reasons, hard drive space (not that much of a biggy) and processing power...
plus i think for the useage that i use it for ect there is no need for 24 bit, i would only use 24 bit if i was recording bands
and tbh, i can tell much difference!
Anyway..Yeh thats my sound card, mayb it the not the card but my computers ram i suspect becuase i can handle a few froxen instruments it ok, more than 5 or 6 or so and its a gonner..

yikes, i would strongly recommend 24 bit for ANY audio recording situation, but whatever
there IS a difference... esp with a nice mic like the C1.
strange, your specs are much better than mine and my pc can run alot more tracks than that....
perhaps its the fx you are using?
there has to be something wrong somewhere there...
latest soundcard drivers?

But you have no business with the "frozen" files. These are solely for Cubase itself.
And there are plenty ways to convert.

"latest soundcard drivers?"
im goin to check that, this may help
--
over the last few days ive devloped a theory thats its my ram, becuase the bigger the bits..the bigger the file, and if im say using 12 frozen instruments, some of which multichannled..its like using 36 or so 16 bit channels..
i think my ram need upgrading possibly..
---
wil report back after the driver check!

I'm curious how Cubase has implemented it's freeze. Does it make one file per frozen track, or do you get one file with the sum of all frozen tracks?
If it uses the first strategy and you get performance problems, it may be due to the harddisk. Especially when much RAM is in use and the harddisk is slow to begin with. 5400rpm is rather slow.
Another strategy is to do the second strategy (one file) yourself: bounce/render/export selected tracks and disable the originals. Can be done several times for several groups of tracks ofcourse...

*ALL* plugins process *EVERYTHING* in cubase as 32bits (and everywhere else for that matter), and there's nothing you can do about it. That's also the reason for the 32bit freeze files, as it's completely transparent that way. You're not saving any processing power by working with 16bit files. It only saves hard drive space.TheMissedSymphony wrote:i work in 16 bits for a few reasons, hard drive space (not that much of a biggy) and processing power...

There is even a possibility that you're wasting CPU power with 16 bits as the Int to Float conversion is rather slow.Kingston wrote:*ALL* plugins process *EVERYTHING* in cubase as 32bits (and everywhere else for that matter), and there's nothing you can do about it. I have'nt checked it but i would'nt rule it out completley.
And the difference is probably negliable anyways.

Not if the CPU is idle, waiting for the harddisk transfering twice the data size...jupiter8 wrote:And the difference is probably negliable anyways.
