:x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x

I just uninstalled the Toxic 3 demo, which I had downloaded from here
http://www.image-line.com/documents/toxiciii.html

The uninstall app then proceeded to delete my entire plugins directory

I have my plugins in
E:\plugins

I have two directories e:\plugins\vsti and e:\plugins\fx where I install permanent plugins.
I install demos to the e:\plugins directory.

I am now about to scour the web for a good undelete utility - but I am not too hopeful.

Image-Line - I am freakin' FURIOUS

KVRians - be careful !!!!!!!!!

edit - apparently there is a new installer up which fixes this

Ouch, i've had uninstallers do that to me too, that's why no matter the install path, i always add another folder (for example, if the path is c:\vstplugins\synth - then i'll change it to c:\vstplugins\synth\synthname...) it has saved me thus far.

Btw, looking again at what you done, you made the e:\plugins path the 'root' for the install, you should have added back \toxicIII to the path.

I know, but please please please, learn from it :P You now have that wonderful thing called hindsight, don't let it be in vain  :P

I just tested it myself, it did remove the whole e:\vstplugins directory (i use the same path as you, i also backed mine up first before the 'experiment') That's a nasty uninstaller, most would leave the root folder for manual deletion, or at the very least ONLY REMOVE THE FILES IT INSTALLS 'just in case'.

I tried it and it's default folder was ToxicIII in my vst plug-ins folder.
So they were trying to encourage you to install it in it's own folder. Nevertheless I don't understand why a developer can't create an installer that deletes only files it installed and deletes only the folder the files were in if it's empty after removing it's own files.
It's can't be that hard for a developer to figure out which files come with the install...
Rekkerd.org the latest news on audio plugins, sample libraries & virtual instruments, synth presets & more.
Don't click here if you can't control yourself!

It isn't, taking into account that's exactly what most installers do, they write a log and only follow that log when uninstalling.

I am currently installing the 30-day trial of Executive's Undelete.

Cross your fingers for me

Subz - the damage or otherwise will be entirely down to how much success I have at undelete ........

important: do NOT use drive E for anything, do not create new files most important, until you run the recovery tool.
