i hear people saying they use commodore 64 to make music, i hear people saying they use gameboy to make music, my pc got "f#$&" up" , and can't be repair, im broke ( im trying to buy some old and still usefull pc on sites like ebay ) and the only thing i have to make music is a very old pc with dos and window 98, but i got to forget win98 , its very slow working with it, so im thinking in using DOS (before i can affort another pc) (crazy? but if the commodore and gamaboys can??) ,so any software i can use in DOS ,a tracker? any good one on DOS? , just wish one of this could have a god "set" of effects so i could f%&#$65 up the samples the way im used to..

any recomendation? or i should don't even bother?

i just unziped both fastracker and impulse tracker to my c:\ (before i read you recomendations, just googled trackers for dos),
and im gladly suprised how fast they load , my previous experience with trackers was just to do some loops , and i end up always "connect" those sounds to vst effects to "destroy"/get some noisy melodies . thats the only thing its holding me to accept doing it in DOS ,don't know how i can do this with a dos tracker .

i used to program my atari 1200xl to make music. back then, computers were for programming. there were magazines on all the stands dedicated to programming different computers. ppl would hang out at computer shops and exchange tips

ahhh. I remember how good was making music with Fast Tracker 2.08.. Impulse tracker is good too.

im gonna keep both !

love how they load fast , now i just got to find a way for the computer loads first DOS (without the need of F8 eDIT- jus found the way http://www.ctyme.com/msdos7.htm ) ...and , i totally forgot, damn
got to start a new colection of samples, the others were on the f$#%"#$up pc , gonna be a long afterrnoon

I once programmed the entire melody of the theme to 'Charlie Brown', by Vince Guaraldi, by programming (in BASIC) a series of 'peek' and 'poke' commands to blip the speaker at different frequencies and lengths. On the screen I had done some BASIC graphics to display a picture of charlie brown's head at the same time.

That was the only time I ever made music using DOS as the OS.

On the C64 I used various things. Music Construction Set, something that used a ROM cartridge, some other matrix-based thing with nifty modulation options.

After that though I was mostly into hardware, so I never really did much with DOS.
