Aleksey - are you close to having AU versions of your plugins for Intel Mac users any time soon?

Would you at least be able to say whether it's more than a couple of months away?

Post

I plan to release beta version of some free plug-in soon. However, it will include VST2.3 only - for both PC and PowerPC Mac OS X. MacIntel binary will be available only if PowerPC Mac's XCode produces it automatically (Apple claims it will). If not, I will have to order MacIntel system from the dealer (this alone may take two months at least).

Unfortunately, Mac OS X was never a top priority development for me due to its costs, its 'new' state to us (never developed for it), and arguably a lot smaller than PC market share (taking Voxengo price range). And I still have no access to RTAS market (Digidesign refuses to answer to my developer requests). And I'm really hoping not to be disappointed, because Mac OS X development takes our human time resources we could use for other developments...

I'd like to see AU versions as well. When Torben announced MacIntel products, it really caught my attention.

Good luck!

I second

Good luck !

Thanks for that Aleksey... I have to say though that the market out there for OSX (incl. UB) versions of your plugs might be bigger than you think... :D

I second that. Although I'm not a Mac user, most people using Macs are either into graphics design or music and I've heard more than a few people whining for Voxengo plugs, you know? :D I think you'll be surprised, too.

Yep. Me too!

++ Looking forward to checking out the AUs!

We'll see... Without RTAS it may not be worth it, unfortunately (Digidesign hit the Mac market long before AU was introduced by Apple). AU support from Voxengo will be coming a bit later after VST - I do not expect AU will be problematic, because Apple even has a special team of people dealing with AU - QA, developers, etc.

Remember, there's a VST-RTAS Adaptor from FXPansion. So, no matter if you appelize them with or without direct RTAS support, IMHO... :)

Yes, there is way... But AFAIK full-time professionals do not really like to use 'wrappers'. At least I'm sure some people spread the word about wrappers being 'half solution' thing. I'm also sure people will keep asking me to support RTAS natively.

Yes, possible. I admit, I feel a bit aloof of the VST-AU Wrapper for a unknown reason, too (maybe because there are so few plugins that don't support AU). But I always thought it's only me, because I know quiet a few 'full-time' professionals, that use those wrappers with less scepticism...

Anyway, the VST-RTAS Wrapper is one of the top items on my todo list and I think, if a plugin is really good, I wouldn't mind to use it wrapped.

And before I would ask you to support RTAS nativly, I rather would ask directly for a TDM version :P
