Hey, I'm a registered Live Lite user. Maybe I'll check it out! Thanks!

Only been playing with it for half an hour.

Racks are great

Grab 3 arpeggiators, group them as a rack and make each respond to a different key range, or velocity range. Few clicks done.

Add a synth, and a chain of effects, group them as a rack. You can easily layer any specific effect(s) so it only covers a key or velocity range. Want the saturation effect to only affect the upper keyboard range? simple. Want your modwheel to control synth filter cutoff, the saturation effect, and maybe wet reverb signal? done

very nice!

How does it add fx to only certain ranges of the keyboard? Are you on about audio fx or midi? does it have to duplicate the vsti (take twice the cpu) if you want an effect on a high octave and another effect on a low octave?

The other things can be done in energyXT very simply btw. ;)

pardon me... only midi effects have key and velocity ranges...

For midi

you can set each chain up with key or velocity layering/split... a chain could include any midi, instrument or audio effects. you can have for example, 3 synths each with their own split zone. You could make them the same synth/preset and put different audio effects after them and in this way you can give the audio effects their own keyzone. If you are not crossfading, then the cpu use does not go up. Obviously if you are playing two synths, then cpu use goes higher. You cannot split an audio signal, then add an effect to only a specific zone

you can split the audio signal and crossfade audio effects using a midi controller (see below)

audio rack

suppose you have a synth on a track. Then you add a rack after the synth and drop 4 audio effects into it. Each effect can be in its own chain, meaning the signal is split. You could also put all 4 effects into one chain (serial). There is no limit to the number of chains. Each chain has a range set on a 0-127 range that is mappable to a controller. That range can be adjusted across that range along with fade settings. This way you can modulate between different effects chains on a synth sound or any audio.

racks can be nested in racks...

oh, and eXT is not available for MacOS. So for me eXT is completely useless.

Post

ah reet, i thought for a second there Live could split audio into keyboard ranges :? Thanks for the explanation, yea shame eXT isnt for mac, but it can do what you described there and is as cheap as chips. :ud:

eXT does look interesting... if it were on the Mac I would surely try it out, though I believe I would rather not have multiple programs and GUI's but prefer the functions in one host.

Just for understanding, since I cannot use it: How well integrated is it with Live (for example). Could I create such complex racks in eXT using Lives effects (which only work in Live)?

Post

Well, i dont have Live, so i dont know how well they work together. EnergyXT can be used as a VST instrument or as a VST effect, so you can have many instances of it inside live as you want. Endless possibilities of midi and audio routings, plus a v.helpfull forum!

Another year, another Live beta :D

so far, I am liking the new Dynamic Tube and (significantly) improved Saturation effects.

Also, the new freeze does work well... A huge improvement, though with the new multiprocessor support it is just not as necessary to freeze! :)

lets see some screenies.

anyone find a way to split the differents outputs of a vsti or of an impulse into different effect chains? eg each cell of an umpulse to its own effect...
