TBH, I've never really heard any free filter plugins that ever made me go "wow".

Both Bifilter and Frohmage wow me as free filters go, but neither is a very good replacement for Northpole since they lack the modulation options. And after doing the testing above, I've found a new admiration for Naive LPF.

Hmmm...Sascha...are these coming under Samplitude or as DigitalFishphones new toys? (And it's good to see you around these parts by the way ).

Part of Samplitude/Sequoia V9 soon (DE in August, Int. in September, I think). I've spent a whole ear full-time (8-10hrs/day) on them, so the same as branded fishphones would take me around 5 years or so...

Apart from the hilarious parallelism girls=plugins this statement isnt's quite right, It's not a matter of feelings but of reason and logic.
When you move your first steps into whatever sector you learn a lot of things and tendentially you take them as they are thinking that they are good and right.
Since I made my first steps into computer music Northpole was the only env follower filter I've ever had. I've always used it and I've always found it good (for the kind of music I do), but I've understood lately that my approach was totally acritical ...so my reasonable need to listen to other filters/envelope followers.
BTW, musically-wise I think I'll continue using the ol-dirt-Northpole, unless I want a more distinct and clear sound...in this case I think Naive filter is better, well actually I liked it a lot .
