@ JonnySun2.0: thanks for the names. might choose one of them. re. Cubase SX 1: not sure why it wouldn't work. i tried it with the SX 2 demo, and it seemed to work just fine.
@ TekSonic: i'm sorry it seems to be crashing everything for you. my only guess is that it must be a problem with Win98. having given up that platform years ago, i don't have anything to test with. sorry.
@ Rangtangtang: sorry about the lack of GUI, but glad to hear you're messing around with the advanced features. they are admittedly subtle, but they do do something. without getting bogged down in too much detail: the Attack/Release govern how the sidechain detects the mono component, and the Average influences the auto-release algorithm (which works with the user Release). the detection of the mono signal is used to modulate the side signal. in effect, changing any of the advanced parameters will alter the "transparency" of the side modulation. remember, it functions similar to a compressor, so it can either be fairly transparent or "pumpy".
which brings me to another point: the ultimate goal is to do away with the "advanced" version and just have 1 version with 2 controls. the current "simple" version represents our idea of what the most transparent settings might be. however, since there wasn't much time to test--and since everybody's got their own opinion on what sounds transparent--we thought we'd give you the opportunity to become part of the development and help choose the preset sidechain ("advanced") values. as such, if you have a different preset that you think is really killer, please post/email your values, and they might become the defaults.
thanks again for checking this plug out. please keep the feedback coming (and don't forget about posting your favorite advanced values). hopefully, the next build will have a permanent name. how about, "Golden Audio Widener (GAW-1)"?
