I figured since I never ask anything here, just answer the wee newbies, I may as well ask for any advice before I sink the several hours of testing Usine out to see if it can do what I want it to.

Which is:
live mixer of animated effects on voice and guitar
(a living person will be manning my midi controler for this
but I've little idea how well anything deals with live song changes/loading new songs or with knob-twiddling vst animations.

I know that the way Usine works you must choose which VST controls you want to send to the "channel strip" gui elements which are then what you assign to PC keyboard keys (for momentary buttons or the like) or to your misi controller knobs. I love that only the controls you actually need are what you see in the mixing console.

And then it'll play sone longish backing track samples, percussion mostly, but I'm sure anything could handle that.

Any tips, tricks or timesaving advice for me?
I just can't wait to turn 2 vocalists' beatboxing, singing and other noises into instruments through VST fx finally!

I'm also really interested in Usine, Honestly it's still a little too buggy for me to trust. I havent given the new version a real run though, maybe this update will change my opinion. When the kinks are all worked out and the program is optimized it's going to be a great piece of software.

Well, I'm glad one person actualy replied, Dozius.
If I get buried neck-deep in it and figure anything cool out I'll let you know.

And, yes, I'm registered over there to preempt the obvious question. I'm just wondering if any of the super-genius KVR members have anything interesting to add. Not A.D.D., but add.

Bumpity bump bump look at that frosty go.

Heh runagate, sub-genius (make that sub-sub-genius)(sub-genus?)(!?!) KVR member thinks Usine might be worth another look...thanx for the speed-bump...

That would be cool...and appreciated...

Have you read about the aspect of Usine that allows you to detect the audio input's zero crossings and send it out as a control message (internal or midi)... which means that, for example, you're playing a sax into it you can route the zero crossing detection to a delay VST's feedback level so that when you hum along with a note, due to the ensuing increase of complexity of the waveform, there'd be more zero-crossings and you'll get more delay feedback!

I love things like this and it also has pitch detection to control message and amplitude to control message, giving you 3 very nice control parameters to automate VSTs with just from audio input and no knob twiddling.

I think that's absolutely genius.

Just registered...was the "...have you read about the aspect of Usine that..." part from http://www.sensomusic.com/download/file ... al%202.pdf
which I am going to download now?

Yes, indeed, bobsled.
I've already read the manual 10 times over the last couple months and am still daunted at actually constructing live set-ups the way I'd need to perform because that's a LOT of work for something I'm not all that sure will work or that I'll be able to pull off.

Just one potential glitch - it's real hard to guess at the sound levels that are going to occur in my attempts at audio-to-midi triggering. I hate and loathe using mics live as without proper time to set things up they tend to feed back. A lot. And there are never even decent conditions.

This is good...my "learning process" includes using 2 or 3(certainly no more) similiar apps to sort of "go-to-school"...Usine and Phrazor will do nicely...any other docs or faqs pertaining to Usine which you feel might be helpfull?

Post

Not that I'm aware of but I'll post it if I find it.

Thanks again...and in no way do I hold you responsible for my getting into what I'm getting into...just appreciate ya, man...

had a chance to mess around with new version a little today. The new sequencer reminds me of how audiomulch handles things. I like the addition of FFT, I always miss that stuff when I work outside of bidule. I need to read over the manual more. Im still not clear about a few things, like the conductor. I also need to start writing down bugs and suggestions as Im working with it because I always forget to post them over at senso.
