The new Image Line FL Studio newsletter says there's a special offer for the whole 9GB SampleFusion collection, just till July 31, priced at $99 instead of the list $493.

Anyone tried this, or want to offer comments/advice? I'm tempted, having not done a lot of sample collecting.

headline revised...

i own several of the CDs and they are decent. the sale price is fair and i too am tempted. the real temptation for me is as an owner of directwave, they are working on putting the SF content into directwave patches. looks like they've stopped doing that temporarily, but if all the cds had directwave patches, it'd be a huge benefit to me. i a few of the cds individually already; generic sample cd, dream pads, killer tweaks, and realdrums. plus being a fl customer i downloaded the gig+ of freebies which included some of what i own already but lots of what i didn't.

realize that what you get is sometimes more than samples. for instance the realdrums cd you get flp's of beats that load up the samples.

i'm going for it, assuming the directwave conversions will continue as time progresses, and the fact that the cds i've bought from sample fusion from long ago aren't registered to my account on directwave, this is worth it imo.

the 2gb of samples they offered to registered user were top ,so definitly i would go for it

:) Sounds pretty good...I've been previewing a few in the past half-hour. I also quite liked the freebie sounds set aside for FL users...

What I'm not getting -- and this is probably me -- is how the package will then work. I have to download the whole 9GB straight away? Or does FL Studio and DirectWave then 'know' which ones I've paid for (namely all, till they add more) and allow me to grab them as I need them?

It's not very clearly explained upfront, though perhaps it becomes clearer as money changes hands...? Anyone been there, done that?

the downloads are unlocked when you buy. that's how it is for the cds i bought from samplefusion pre directwave, anyway. you aren't time limited, and it works with batch downloading progs. so yes, it 'knows' ... if you own directwave, you will have access to all the programs as they are now and as they become available as well, which is a great way to use samplefusion imo. of course you should download all of the samples separately and burn them off as backup though, and not rely on directwave offerings to always be there forever and ever.

funxi...

When you purchase the sets, you get a new reg code to add to your registry. You then download each of the CD's using the FL Studio Download Manger (which uses the reg code to determine what you're authorized to access).

But be aware that there are issues with this tool, including memory leaks, random errors, freezes, and glacially slow speeds. This was apparently developed with one-off samples in mind and not 600+ MB chunks.

IL has promsied a solution to this by early next week -- just when the sale ends. :P
Drum machines are people too.

:) Good explanations, guys! Yeah, I think I'm going to grab this, and trust that the FL download manager improves... :P

One reason I'm pretty happy about this deal is because I'm pleased with DirectWave. It's turned out to be a pretty good sampler for the price... :hihi:

i've never used the download manager -- unless is that what is bundled inside directwave? i always downloaded directly from the samplefusion website, for the fl included ones, and got actual physical CDs from before... i trust imageline, so i'm not worried either. besides, even if it takes me a good week to get them all i'm okay with that. the imageline guys, despite popular opinion are very honest, friendly, and helpful and have in my experience, excellent customer service.

dont let a download manager bug stop you from taking advantage, this looks like 1 time only deal, and at $6/cd it's a no brainer, the quality is very high, just like you'd expect out of IL.

definitely, directwave is awesome. the mapper is the best i've ever used. once wlodimeir (ESC) and arguru get together to implment the DWI format in ESC as a source, it'll be 100x more useful and my #1 sampler mapper. i like it's quality of effects and built in browser as well, and the fact that you can freeze VSTi's like you can in highlife rules. i find highlife to be a bit nicer for editing the waves and for recusive freezing (you can insert a highlife into a highlife, but cant insert a DW into a DW), both are awesome tools and very affordable.

funxi, i think they will be adding more instant directwave patches for download too using the content from sample fusion. there are already quite a few like this, and while not all of the cds are 'mappable' in directwave for some are only 1 shots or single loops without multisamples per instrument, the ones that are, are great quality stuff.

if you dont own any sample cds yet, this is like the perfect way to start too.

probably not going to get a result from IL if you order until monday though, as it's the weekend...

I have a pretty fat/phat loops collection, but relatively few samples. So yeah, that's how it easily caught my attention...

:hihi: vonbrucken man, feel your pain. gotta have priorities! music > food, etc. :D

the flstudio store is perfectly crafted to extract every dime with it's jedi mind trick and the price reduction bar filling up... believe me, i know.

the $99 is a great deal like $6/cd (usd), which is basically them giving it to us imo. of course the addict can justify his fix in many ways..

it probably wont be getting any feedback from IL and co until monday though, as it's the weekend and i think they close shop up.
