Anyone got feedback to give on dual cpu/core?
Someone mentioned better cpu overhead - was that for a single cpu?
This is what interests me for this release.

As I mentioned before, CPU for a Live 5 project was around 62% - same project in Live 6 around 28% in Live 6 on my Core Duo system. Awesome!!!original flipper wrote:HI

In that case it looks like I should see some good results with my dual Xeon.
I will definately be using Live along with XTV2 by the looks of things!

From Ableton person regarding the chain select option in the racks. Lot of creative use will come from this feature!
"All zones are data filters, deciding which device chains should be addressed by incoming data. For example, our old friends Key zones are only interested in MIDI notes: If an incoming note doesn't lie within any chain's key zone, then it has no chance of passing through to the devices beyond.
Chain Select is a bit special, however. Its zones care for nothing but the value of the Chain Selector, an orange vertical line (in the default skin) that lives within the editor's ruler area. You can select this little guy, and move him around to any value you like, from 0 - 127. What you'll notice is that just like Key and Velocity zones, absolutely nothing passes through to device chains without the Chain Selector's approval - some chain's chain zone must overlap his current value.
The real fun here begins when the Chain Selector is Macro- and/or MIDI- mapped, because you then have an automatable chain-scanner, allowing you to switch or blend between chains on the fly, using a single knob! There are many possiblities here, such as defining multiple articulations for an instrument, or having a whole switchable array of MIDI Effects that can process your composition in different ways."

"And the development of the video feature had a great side effect: you now can choose an audio clip, set warp markers in it and define this clip as master. it will play completely unalterd but the song tempo will follow to match the warp markers.
Add a MIDI or audio track to a free jazz performance.... yeah.... "

I think the bottom line is that there's plenty of cool stuff in Live 6 that easily justifies the upgrade price. Sampler is less attractive but I'm sure many people will bite. Those of us hoping to get a little closer to replacing a more conventional DAW with Live are going to have to wait.
Just getting the engine to run this tightly on multiple cores without gaps is a pretty impressive piece of software engineering, IMO. I bet it wasn't easy.

The beta is fairly solid. I was not using Live during the last beta cycle for 5 but I have heard lots of complaints about it being unstable. I've been using Live6 beta for a couple days now. I have yet to have a crash or serious sort of problem that makes you feel nervous like walking on eggshells. Obviously there are various bugs, but the core app with the multi-proc support seems impressively reliable.
The things they added were pretty much the things I wanted most. Now I also hope that for the next major upgrade that arrange gets some work and some of the features you would like to see!
