Hey,

So after all the "hype" i've noticed behind eXT, I decided to give it a try.

Couldn't find any tutorials on how to get started, and I really want to see what this host is all about but I don't know where to start.

I'm generally an FL user so please understand where I'm coming from. eXT does look a bit similar interface wise but I just dont get the basic structure of the program and what it can and can't do.

Any help?

If you want something traditional.. Like fl, you need to right click and add a sequencer.. Connect the inputs and outputs appropriately and double click on that sequencer..

Right click on the midi track lane(on the left side around the mute and solo buttons) and set the output->add>vstofyourChoice..

Badda bing badda boom.. Ten times better than fl and it gets better.. And better..> And even better once version two comes out in the next couple months(not sure when but buy now and the upgrade is free)...

Well, it's actually easy once you start to understand the concepts behind it. You'll want to start here:

There is an beginners guide there and everything. Then your next step would be to ask away here in the forums! Everyone is peaceful and very willing to help.

Also, on that site, you can download the manual. In that manual, there is a tutorial on creating a project with routing and tracks with full inputs and outputs and everything.

You'll get it. Just start with the link above, and go from there. You will learn more as you go along. There are alot of conventions that are different in the editors. The Alt key is your friend in this program when editing.

Let us know what questions you have exactly! There are SO MANY options in the program, and complete flexibility, so I think you'll be happy once you get into it. Good luck!

I kinda get the feeling that you are overloading yourself. That is easy to do after being at KVR (or anywhere else that offers eleventy billion toys all on the one page).

There are apps like Fruity that are very immediate but generally the more immediate an app the less depth it has (please don't flame me, I'm trying to make a point). Apps like E-XT & SE are immense in scope so take some time to get your head around how they do work.

I think that out of those 50 SE synths you say you have tried, perhaps choose 2-3 and really learn them and you just might change your mind. I've been composing for 20 years and there is still so much that I don't know and only a bit that I do. Most ppl will tell you that.

Yeah EXT has so many hidden treasures that one has to find by utilizing it more and more.

Similarities between FL and EXT are the Live modes to trigger patterns.
In EXT, within the sequencer, to the right of the BPM counter, you will find the word "single". Here is where you can choose live mode (as well as multi mode).

The piano rolls are similar in features. I love both as far as workflow. Sure FL looks nice but for some, that's not important.
Once you record a take, you can double click the "clip" and it will open the piano roll. There's also a piano roll editor directly on the track which can be opened by double clicking the area you right click to load a vst.

ANother nice feature is, like FL, EXT can be used as a VST.

Best yet....EXT is cheaper and can do waaaaaay more once you familiarize yourself with the modular aspect.
