Live5 vs reason vs fruityloops vs project 5

I have to agree with pdxindy's opinion about Ableton Live. Even when i didn't used it sofar... but the time could come when Live will be very usefull to me too !
The environment of Live has a very good overview...for LIVE-sessons the best solution i have ever seen. P5 & Reason are also LIVE-compatible but i think for alot too complex or too long winded.

Therefore i did experiment with Live because u never know. To underline pdxindy's statment according Igor 4000's question ...yes it is a traditional sequencer indeed. That is one of the reason why it is very compatible together with Reason aswell. Live is no loop arranger like Fl.

Besides i have to agree @ djroby's too. Fl is indeed an easy to use with a fast learn-curve-possiblity. But i also think that Fl & Live are extream useable to Professionals. It's always just a question of taste & the individual workflow....look as example on Mike Oldfield's interview with the Fl-guyz (poweruser section)....he told he looked for an uncomplicated tool with a good overview. Fl doesn't overstrain the people with options like protools, sonar or mostly...the "so called" super allrounder and perfect Cubase. Further more...Fl as also P5 & Reason, ..invite u to experiment & discover.
Before i would ever use (on Mac) Protools i would prefer Reason & Logic Audio/Ableton Live. To the PC-sector it is Fl, P5, Reason & Renoise (personal taste of course).

Watch closely on Mike's big monitor....the next prefered sequencer is Reason....and i don't see any Sonar, Cubase or Pro Tools. And Mike is an expierenced veteran but a guy with an interest for fast workflow & good taste. However...everyone has or should have found his/her own perfect solution for the music production. By other words...it isn't important for which tool u have decided...each programm suits to professionel needs. More important are the results...such the artistic merits & sound quality which is not just dependent on the good choice of u (sequencer that suits u best for ur own individual workflow). Also the talent & expierence level of the artist means alot !

I personaly hate guyz or companies who un/directly try to subordinate their tool from the others. Of course the competition is a legitimate thing...but the arrogance not. Every Sequencer works fine when the User is able to adapt. This is something that i want to report to all those pseudo-wannabe-mr./ms. professionals.

P5 reminds me a little bit on Reason but of course it is a much different program. To me...P5 is the best Rewire-master to handle a rewire project together with Reason. But there are a few things on P5 that i miss or dislike:

Really? I really disagree. I really wanted P5 to be a great rewire host for Reason, but I found it to be one of the worst in my experience. It WORKS smoothly and without bugs which is good, but the functionality and ease of use is horrible. The big thing is that it has that Cakewalk issue where you can only control the first 16 machines in the reason rack, and this includes the hardware interface that has no controls. Cake recently fixed this issue in a recent SONAR update, but it isn't in P5 yet and it is awful. There are some goofy workarounds, but they aren't very good.

Second, after the first stereo pair of Reason audio channels, each additional channel of audio from Reason has to come in in single channels (left and right) which, due to P5's nonexistant routing options cannot be linked back together until the final mix. You cannot apply the same effect to say, Reason rewire channels 3 and 4.

Live has none of these problems and it works the way it should. ACID 6 is almost as good.

Yes that is why i wrote that LIVE & Reason are a perfect match together. And therefore i think about to include it. I have also to agree that P5 is limited in complex routing. I also know all the issues. Don't worry.

But for the moment i'm fine with the workarrounds. I'm happy that at least the stereo signal from reason get's recieved by P5 correctly. FL & P5 are a real horror as rewire-couple compared to Reason/P5. And i don't have any problems to hands on two mixers (reason/p5) at once. With 2 monitors & more controllers a good workflow but of course, ...as i say often...a matter of taste. However i realy need Reason but i also need a vst-host. Therefore Reason rewired wit P5 mostly (cause both traditional sequencers).

Reason & P5 are a little bit similar together. If u don't believe me look for urself through KVR-news. P5 is known as virtual studio as Reason is. Especialy the very first version of P5 looked more alike as in it's current version 2. I also admit that P5 can't beat Reason with the endless routing possibilties... what i didn't have purported at all.

I picked up a copy of project 5 version today for £29 in the soundcontrol summer sale. Didn't notice it on the website but the guy at sc said it was under cakewalk. have to say i'm really impressed with it. Dimension dxi has some very nice patches and a wealth of sound design potentialwith 3gb of content-. Only had it a few hours so can't say much more than that £29..? What you waiting for? Go get it!

P5 was worth the price just to get Dimension. Right now I'm working with Dimension and other VST's inside of Reaper beta, which is free, and combines many features of P5, Sonar, and an audio editor in a DAW you can run on a USB thumbdrive.

My P5, Live, and FL6 demo are sitting on the sidelines...

Live 5 is just incredible -- I'm on the beta team for 6, and it's going to be fantastic. It still needs a good midi/standard notation editor, but that's about all it lacks. Works great with Reason, -- and Dimension Pro, BTW, is a really good VST also.

U are lucky as Live6 will have a sampler very soon which might be not that bad. Of course i'm more NN-XT(Reason)fan as i'm very used to it but it's always useful that each sequencer contain a good sampler.

Been using the Sampler beta in Ableton -- very nice, lots of automation, very easy to import other libraries or make your own samples.

I guess it will be an easy-to-use as Live if famous for that. Also...u need a fast-handling for Live-performances....but why takes the Betatest so long ? Live6 is announced since July (or earlier maybe) but the release of the final will be september.
